This accessibility walk took us to New Owerri. It is within the capital of Imo State. We toured through the House of Assembly Junction to Concorde roundabout. Our major plan was to get into the Imo State House of Assembly complex but access was denied by soldiers who were stationed there. No photos were allowed due to some security reasons. I tried to get a 360 photo from the outside.
On both roads intersecting the House of Assembly, there are no walkways and ramps for pedestrians. This could be really challenging for people with disabilities especially wheelchair users. With what we have in Abuja and major cities, I think there needs to be a major shift in planning for Owerri roads.
The good thing is that the grasses and plants are lush green. Gives images some nice hue.
Our next port of call was De Legend Hotel, fair enough, they allowed us to access their entrance and parking zone. No dedicated parking sign nor a ramp to the reception. We got a pledge from the Manager to provide a mobile ramp and sign board to assist people with special needs.
Sure, we didn’t forget to take some 360 photos!
