[RECAP] Accessible Charlotte

Accessible Charlotte was held this past weekend in support of #OneAccessibility team’s effort in highlighting accessible trails. The purpose of the event was to highlight locations that promote accessibility in Plaza Midwood, Charlotte’s trendy and laid-back neighborhood area.

So unfortunately, Plaza Midwood is not as accessible-friendly as I expected though the neighborhood is very environmentally friendly. Many individuals here own bicycles and there are bike racks throughout the streets where you can rent with tracking applications.

The first image above is of a quirky adult store that caught my attention. The entrance had no elevation which was probably the closest thing to an accessible building in the area. The second image I was contemplating whether the stepping blocks would aid or hinder those with wheelchairs. What do you think? The last image is of the bike racks. This particular one operates via a mobile application where you can start and end a trip and you get charged on your card.

Since the accessible part of the event did not work out as expected, I played around with street photography (a bit cloudy as you can see).

I also played around with the 360-photo concept right before the rain kicked in! Which one is your favourite?

Accessible Charlotte helped me realized, or rather reaffirmed the importance of our advocacy for an accessible world. I had high expectations being that Charlotte is the second fastest growing city in the United States, following Las Vegas (in terms of population).

Thanks for reading! If you have any questions or comments, don’t be shy!
