Ranguwan dam Chhatarpur.

Caption Viewing point Ranguwan dam Chhatarpur Madhya Pradesh.

We were moving by Car from Khajuraho to Panna in the month of March 2019. We were having plan to visit the Ranguwan dam enroute to Panna. We could access after following the Khajuraho Panna Highway about 16 kms at the left hand side there is a Petrol Pump of Indian Oil from there right turn towards the Jangipura Ranguwan a good road is there and after 6 to 7 kms fascinating Dam was in our sight.

After reaching to Ranguwan Dam, we were filled with a strange pleasure. The reservoir is large enough seems to be like ocean. Having a viewing point in the form of circular pavilion.

This Dam was built in 1957 a joint venture of MP and UP on the Ken River. It’s situated in the Rangwan village of District Chhatarpur Madhya Pradesh. Complete Bundelkhand region is facing rain scarcity since a decade, so reservoir is not getting filled to the level for which it’s meant for. Having three main canals to supply the water. For releasing the excess water in emergency during heavy rain, it has about 15 shutters located in the extreme corner. Here boating facility is not available but it offers a panoramic view as a large lake having beautiful surroundings. It’s a popular picnic spot among the locals.
The canals that runs through this dam fills many tanks. Its water is shared with the neighbouring districts of Uttar Pradesh mostly of Bundelkhand, used to irrigate the fields and fullfill the needs of people and animals.

It needs half an hour after reaching otherwise many hours can easily be spent. Nearest attractions are Gangau Dam, Panna Tiger Reserve etc. It’s a major attraction among bird watchers during winters as many birds are seen including migratory birds. It’s a popular tourist attraction.

That’s a very nice view of the reservoir @rizbab28

I am surprised the dam is full even in summer.

You seem to be knowing and visiting several dams in your travel.

Do you have a special liking for dams or do they just keep appearing on the way  ?

I have noted them all though and will try to visit as well.
