In addition to the traditional mangoes, another potential mango has made its debut on the soil of Bengal and has already gained a reputation in the country and abroad under the name “Haribhanga”. He is Mr. Alhaj Md. Abdus Salam Sarkar.
With the encouragement of the revered Jatha Sahar Ullah Sarkar, Mr. Md. Abdus Salam Sarkar was very interested and dedicated to tree planting in his working life as well as in his student life. While in Thakurgaon district due to his government service, he planted mango, jackfruit and coconut saplings in the premises of Thakurgaon Central Sugarcane Farmers Cooperative Society adjacent to Gobind Nagar cold storage on the west bank of Tangan river which flows past the district town. He felt the need to be present in the field all the time when hundreds of fruit and forest medicinal plants planted in 1984-85 were destroyed due to various reasons. Already about 30 years of service life have passed. After receiving multiple awards from the government for his contribution to tree planting, he decided to retire voluntarily and devote more time and attention to tree planting. Following this, he retired in 1993, 08 years before the completion of his job and entered the field to fulfill his dream. In this situation, after hearing the praise of a mango known as “Haribhanga”, he collected some mangoes and in fact, the mango is so delicious that it moves him. He immediately went out to collect information about the mango and came to the house of late Nafal Uddin Paikar, father of late Tamir Uddin Paikar of Tekani village in Khoragachh Union No. 1 of Mithapukur Upazila who originally invented this mango. There is a beautiful mosque of modern design on the west side of the delta-like triangular village of Tekani, adjacent to the metho road, and at its north-west corner, about 100 feet away, the famous “Haribhanga” mango root / mother tree stands proudly with its head held high. The fence of the tree is about 10 feet, the height of the main stem is 6 feet and the thick stalks beyond it are about 35/38 feet wide around the tree.
From history (Alhaj Md. Abdus Salam Sarkar) it is known that in the garden of the zamindar house located in Balua Masimpur Union, there was a garden of fragrant flowers and delicious fruits of different species imported and planted during the reign of Prajabatsal, Udarmana and Saukhin Raja Taj Bahadur Singh. The Jamuneshwari sank into the riverbed. Nafal Uddin Paikar of Tekani village of Khoragachh Union No. 1, father of late Tamir Uddin Paikar used to trade in mangoes. He used to sell mangoes of zamindar’s garden and other mango farmers in different markets including Padaganj. One of the imported mangoes from the zamindar’s garden was very tasty, succulent and spectacular, so he brought a pen (sapling) and planted it on his land. As it is a land of Barindra nature, in the dry season, to facilitate watering at the base of the tree, a pot is placed to irrigate the water in a filtered manner, but in a short period of time, who or what broke the pot. In the evolution of time, the tree became a fruitful tree. When the neighbors, friends and consumers of the deceased Nafal Uddin ate mangoes from the tree and asked him about the source of such delicious mangoes, he said, “Who or what broke the bones of the tree is the mango of that tree.” In order to identify the tree, it is later known as “Haribhanga” based on the word Haribhanga uttered or uttered by Nafal Uddin. After visiting Haribhanga mango orchard on July 08, 2010, former Deputy Commissioner of Rangpur Mr. B.M. In the words of Mr. Enamul Haque- “The new version of different varieties of mangoes in Bangladesh is“ Haribhanga ”. Although not very consistent in name, mango is unique in its taste and smell. ”The appearance of Haribhanga mango tree is noticeable and attractive. The tip or chin is nourished and strong. Grafting by grafting or grafting on the branches makes the tree grow very fast. Within a few days the stalks spread and the circumference of the tree increased markedly. The buds appear in the next year after planting, but when the buds are broken in the first year, the number of tree tips increases and becomes stronger. One of the characteristics of the Haribhanga mango tree is that the stalks of the tree are seen to be wider at the side than upward or sky-scraping. As a result, due to the low altitude, the trees do not fall in the storm and the mango also falls less in the storm. The upper part of the mango is thicker and wider, the lower part is relatively thin. The mango looks good and fleshy, the breath is round and a little long. Breath is much shorter than mango, there is no fiber inside. It weighs more than other mangoes in size, on an average 3 mangoes weigh 1 kg. In some cases a mango weighs 500/600 grams. Nutritious mangoes remain intact for more days. The skin is wrinkled but does not rot. Different flavors are available at different levels from small to ripe. However, it is better not to ripen the mango too much. Haribhanga mango information of Rangpur district
Potential Haribhanga mango cultivation and mango industry demands more modern technology-rich management time. The active role of various media is very much needed and important to make Haribhanga Am more popular, dynamic and known in the international market from the point of view of propaganda.
