Rajasthani Thali - A Royal Treat to the Eyes and Taste Buds

Hi, all fellow Foodie Lovers out there.

This is a typical Rajasthani Thali with a royal touch that I had in January this year during the trip to Jaipur.

Next time you’re in Jaipur and looking for a fabulous Veg Thali with an amazing dessert with top-notch service to match, then the Umaid Mahal in Bani Park is an absolute must for foodies.

The items in the ‘Thali’ are as below:
At 9 O’Clock is a sweet dish called Kheer, specifically Sewaiya Kheer.
At 10 O’Clock is Dry Subji i.e. Dry Veg made of Sangi Beans.
At 11 O’Clock is another Dry Subji i.e. Dry Veg made of Tomato.
At 12 O’Clock is Paneer Subji i.e. Cottage Cheese Curry.

At 1 O’Clock is Kadhi i.e. Cooked Curd with Gram flour balls.
At 2 O’Clock is plain rice to be consumed with the previous item i.e. Kadhi.
At 3 O’Clock is a salad made of sliced onion, cucumber, lemon, and carrot.

In the center is Indian Bread i.e. Roti of which:

  1. The yellow is Makke ki Roti made of maize flour.
  2. The single white Roti below it is Phulka i.e. made of wheat flour.

In the glass is Chhass made of diluted curd and flavored with masala i.e spices like coriander, mint, roasted cumin seeds powder, crushed ginger, sugar, and salt.

Also served is the roasted Papad in the conical shape in the main dish.

All this we enjoyed as roof-top candle-light dinner along with a live performance of classical Rajasthani dance and music.

A truly royal experience.

I got very excited about having Thali here for it was such an enjoyable experience.

Hands down the best Thali I had ever had, and I’ve had a few over the years.

Have you treated yourself recently or in the past with a traditional dish worth remembering? I’d be interested in knowing.

Until then… Happy Guiding ?

It seems to be awesome " RAJA SAHEB" experience by just looking at these great pics @TusharSuradkar !! “Hukka” bhi tha ke nahi!! :sunglasses:

THALI description is perfect! :+1:t3: Loved it. But like Rosy mam mentioned, it seems tough for a person to finish that one time served meal, at least the guy like me. And they keep coming at you with more to serve with broad smile on their faces. :grinning:

Looking forward for more hotel reviews.

Thanks for sharing.

Cheers!

Thanks, Rosy for sharing your experience.

Yes, @RosyKohli the larger Thali is quite big and most of the time food goes waste.

So it is a right choice to go for the mini-version of the Thali :+1:

Hi @AjitThite

You are spot-on about the service at some genuine places where they keep feeding guests like family members even after you are done eating

The Hukka thing can be given as feedback to the hotel, It was missing and I am sure they will add and also offer me a free meal for the super-idea :sunglasses:

With all this, it is hard not to feel like a king… :prince:

Good morning @JSharma

That’s right, The color and presentation of food are important to make the first impression so that the person should start mouth-watering just by looking.
