Rabindra Sarobar Metro Station

Rabindra Sarobar Metro Station is one of my most used metro stations in Kolkata as I travel so much on that route. So this is an underground metro station that operates the North-South corridor of the Blue Line of the Kolkata Metro. This metro station was opened on 29 April 1986. So basically the platform structure of this station is the Island platform.

This metro station is said to be one of the most haunted places in Kolkata although I haven’t experienced anything supernatural here ever.

So at the North-South corridor of the Blue Line of the Kolkata Metro that is from Dakshineswar and Kavi Subhash, 26 stations cover approx. 32.13 km in around 52 minutes from Dakshineswar to Kavi Subhash and vice versa. Here are the stations:

The buses that serve the metro station are:

1A, 1B, 12C/1B, 21, 21/1, 40A, 40B, 41, 41B, 45B, 47/1, 47B, 80A, 205, 205A, 208, 228, 234/1, SD4, S112 (Mini), S113 (Mini), S114 (Mini), S117 (Mini), S135 (Mini), S188 (Mini), C2A, C8, C14/1, M7B, S2, S4, S4C, S6A, S7, S17A, S22, AC1, AC4B, AC6, AC47, V1, and V9.

The tourist interests on this metro alignment are Jain Temple, Jorasanko Thakur Bari (Tagore House), Mahajati Sadan, High Court, Indian Museum, Birla Planetarium, Shahid Minar, Rabindra Sadan, Victoria Memorial, St. Paul’s Cathedral Chruch, Netaji Bhavan Museum, and Kali Temple Kalighat. I will give more detailed information about these popular destinations, and how to visit these places in another post.

There are a total of six gates at this metro station:

Gate 1: Opens onto Syama Prasad Mookerjee Road.
Gate 2: Provides access to Tollygunge Railway Station.
Gate 5: Leads to Bhavani Cinema Hall, Charu Market Police Station, Tollygunge Circular Road, and Tollygunge Phari.
Gate 6: Opens towards Swiss Park, Tipu Sultan Mosque, Prince Anwar Shah Road, and Deshapran Sashmal Road.

As you can see gates numbers 1, 2, 5, and 6 are currently operational and I couldn’t able to find gates 3 and 4 also don’t have any information about those gates, might be they are closed. So when I visit this station I enter and exit from Gate 5 which gives me access to Tollygunge Phari from there either I take an auto from the Tollygunge Phari Auto Stand or take a bus from there towards Taratala. From my personal experience, I can tell that most of the time you can get to the metro at an accurate time, there are exceptions where the metro comes 5 minutes hardly 10 minutes late according to the scheduled time.

The wheelchair is accessible at this metro station. The code of this station is RSB.

This is the first time I have seen such a detailed post on a metro station @Shaunak I must say I’m very impressed with the efforts you took to enlighten us on all the possible details about this metro station, not to mention that it could be haunted. The next time I visit Kolkata, let’s go to this metro station around 10:50-11 pm and fact check the spookiness of this place for ourselves  Jokes apart, brilliant post on the metro station.

Very nice dear @Shaunak

The station despite being so old looks wonderful, clean, and glittering.
Excellent photos @Shaunak :+1: especially I like the decorations on the pillars.

Hi, @Steve_UK Actually, 70% of the su*cides in the city have happened in this metro station. As this is an old station, there are no platform doors to prevent this, and it is not upgraded. Only I can see some motivating posters there teaching the importance of life. A decade ago, the story of a woman who suddenly appeared and disappeared, wearing white clothes, was very popular, but now hardly anyone talks about that. Nowadays some people shared that during the last metro at night they experienced various paranormal activities even inside the metro, especially some weird sounds, someone whispering in their ears, etc. @Ssiddharth2000 @TusharSuradkar @PatraSomnath

Thank you @Anil6969 oh you are talking about the line 2 metro East-West corridor right which covers the underwater part. This is line 1, although we can still access the underwater part for which we need to change from Esplanade Metro Station.
