The biggest project of its kind in Northern India, the Science City has been set up in 72 acres of land in the of heart of Punjab, on Jalandhar- Kapurthala Road. It is intended to inclucate the scientific aptitude & temperament, to fire the imagination and creativity, foster the spirit of enquiry and exploration among the masses, especially in the young minds.
The subject areas covered include physical, applied, natural and social sciences, engineering, technology, agriculture, health sciences, energy, industries, human evolution and civilization, the environment, ecosystems, Jurassic parks as well as frontier areas like space, nuclear science, information technology, robotics and Bio-technology…
Space Theatre
In this theatre, Large Format films are projected on 23 meter-tilted dome. The theatre has a capacity of 325 persons. Large Format Film Projection system uses 15 perforations, 70 mm film to shoot and project images with incredible sharpness. The 15/70 frame is 10 times larger than 35mm used in regular theatres and 3 times larger than standard 70mm film used in classic Hollywood epics.
Semi circular giant dome screens produce huge images that soar and swoop above, beside and behind you to fully surround you presenting the spectacular immersible experience. Uncompressed digital, wrap around sound is simply unsurpassed in depth and clarity from a small drop of rain to a massive clap of thunder.
The Large Format Films shown in the theatre are designed to educate and enlighten as much as they are to entertain.
Digital Planetarium
The most amazing experience in any planetarium is to see the night skies, and to get a guided tour through the planets, constellations, and their enchanting dance through the seasons. PGSC planetarium offers this experience each and every time with astronomy shows imparting their sense of wonder, and increasing everyone’s awareness and understanding of astronomy, especially the kind you can enjoy in your own backyard.
PGSC has a multi channel Digital Planetarium system (Digistar 3) for projection of 3- dimensional colour night sky created by real time graphics generator and full-dome video playback system in the 23 meter dia dome theatre. In this theatre all the sights and sounds are created digitally. Dome is covered with breathtaking images along with 5.1 channel sorround sound system
Theatre has a seating capacity of 325 persons. The system uses PC technology in combination with Digistar 3 software designed by E & S USA.
Laser Theatre
aser show provides means of understanding the use of lasers in the field of scientific entertainment.A much hype and curiosity exists in the minds of people regarding these types of shows as they practically do not exist in the country. 3D Digital Theatre
The Light-speed 3D Digital Theatre is a ground breaking new approach to capturing the imagination of today’s media savy science city visitors. Audience of all ages are left spellbound by the theatre’s use of three dimensional computer graphics, videos and the most advanced animations.
In this show, one will see the objects flying out of the screen coming in every direction; creepy characters reaching out to grab you giving a feeling that you are a part of an action.
Flight Simulator
30 seater Flight Simulator provides visitors a sense of adventure through virtual expeditions to unknown and undiscovered places. It is a theatre style ride Simulator where you will sit on a chair in the capsule and watch the computer generated film on the screen as wide as capsule for a dynamic fast moving total involvement and immersing experience.
It has six degrees of movement controlled by a computer to rock it back and forth. The visitors would have a fantastic real life experience as if zooming through the stars in an alien universe, making death defying leaps across chasms or burning the formula one track in your racing car or moving upside down as in a roller coaster.
Earthquake Simulator
30 seater Flight Simulator provides visitors a with the realistic experience of being in an earthquake. It is a theatre style ride Simulator where you will sit on a chair in the Shake table and watch the computer generated film projected on the wall for a dynamic fast moving immersing experience.
Earthquake simulator provides simultaneous and independant programmable motion in horizontal and vertical direction. Simulator reproduces up to Richter Scale 6.5 magnitude programmable earthquake.
Space & Aviation
The Space Gallery takes you on an exhilarating voyage in to space world. Through the wide display of various exhibits, you are engaged in a fun and interesting learning journey into our solar system and many amazing celestial objects making up the universe.
You will be fascinated by the in-depth explanations on the Sun, Earth, Moon and other planets. The gallery consists of display cut-view models of satellites and various applications of space technology.
Energy Park
Renewable Energy Education Park (REEP) is set up in Science City with the assistance of the Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy Sources (MNES) and Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) .
Objectives of Renewable Energy Park:
- To create awareness among the masses about the new technologies developed in the area of renewable energy.
- To educate students/masses regarding applications of various renewable energy sources, energy conservation measures.
- In order to make awareness of renewable energy sources, informative pavilion is set up along with renewable energy gadgets and models
The entire park area has some unique civil and landscaping scenario. All the exhibits are interactive and educative.
Health Gallery
Amazing Living Machine gallery is designed for the students from the age of 8 to 15 and the general public. This gallery consists of three sections
Gallery reveals the intricate structures and functions of the human body using large human models. In this gallery, information on the Anatomy and Physiology of human body has been displayed through various interactive exhibits. The star attractions are the Transparent Man Theatre, Giant Walk through Heart, CT Scan, Operation Theatre, Countdown to Birth, Interactive giant model of human cell, chromosomes, DNA model and various other interactive biotechnology based exhibits.
Science of Sports
Science of Sports gallery at Pushpa Gujral Science City Kapurthala, Punjab is the first sports gallery in India that gives the basic knowledge and other valuable information regarding various games
The gallery is built at a cost of Rs.1 crore and intends to familiarise the visitors with the applications of scientific principles in sports - role of gravity, projectile motion, momentum, force, energy, impulse, Newton’s Law of Motion, materials used in equipment etc. and understanding and improving performance in sports.
Gallery is ideal place to understand science behind various sports through playful and non-formal approach.
Several models at the gallery provide information about history of various sports, ground dimensions, possible injuries and safeguards.
Virtual Reality
Virtual Reality & Cyber Space gallery is designed to provide fun, entertainment and education to people of all ages and backgrounds.
The gallery is built at a cost of Rs.2 crore and whole concept is conceived, designed and developed by the scientists of the Science City itself within a period of one and half year.
This gallery consists of following sections
The section on Cyber space deals with revolving model of integrated circuit, How e-mail works, How ATM works and Image Scanner. Virtual Reality Shadow control contains six exhibits Marble Marshal, Molecular Bubbles, Virtual Butterflies, Shadow Harp, Virtual Sand and Magical Flowers based on shadow control. Virtual Game Stations has six exhibits in which the camera captures the image of a participant and superimposes the player’s image into the virtual scene. The star attractions are the Virtual Makeover, Virtual Jigsaw & Virtual Games exhibits.
Fun Science
Prepare to be amazed and mesmerized at the Fun Science exhibits. Around 70 numbers of assorted interactive exhibits have been designed and fabricated and clustered together on the basis of basic fundamental science themes. The exhibits reflect the basic principles of reflection, refraction, sound waves, vibrations, illusions, primary colours, work, energy & power etc. in a very interesting and interactive way.
Dinosaurs Park
Dinosaur Park has been setup in 2.63 hectare of land area. It shows the Evolution of dinosaurs on earth and also some of the probable reasons of their extinction.
Dinosaur Park has been divided in three periods:
- Triassic
- Jurassic
- Cretaceous
26 different types of Dinosaurs have been shown by 45 different dinosaur models in their natural habitat. Starting from the smallest known dinosaur “Compsognathus”, to the giant dinosaurs like “Seismosaurus” of Jurassic period and “Argentinosaurus” of Cretaceous period have been shown.
Plants like Araucaria, Cycads, Palms and Ferns also resemble the plantation of that era. Even the rock models represent the structure of rocks of that era.
Life Through Ages
Life Through Ages Panorma at Pushpa Gujral Science City Kapurthala, Punjab has been set up in 80-feet diameter dome-like structure and showcases evolution from the Big Bang to the present day world. It also tells all about dinos-their origin, gaining gigantic size, and then their extinction.
Panorama has been divided into 16 different sections demonstrating major events through 2D and 3D models, huge background paintings along with landscaping, providing a wide-angle view of the entire occurrence. Each section defines an important event in the development of life on the earth.
