We are officially in July now - celebrated world wide as the ‘Pride Disability Month’ . This month is a time to honor people with special abilities—including those who also belong to the LGBTQ+ community. It’s about celebrating identity, breaking down stigma, and reminding the world that differences are not weaknesses—they are part of what makes humanity beautifully diverse.
Kindness Begins with Understanding
Inclusion doesn’t require perfection—just compassion. Whether it’s making space for someone with mobility challenges, respecting different identities, or simply listening without judgment, small acts of kindness can make a big difference. When we welcome everyone, we all feel more connected.
We don’t need to have all the answers to be kind and inclusive. Sometimes, it’s as simple as being open to learning. Ask yourself: Can everyone join in where I work, eat, or shop? Would a wheelchair user be able to enter? Would someone who is LGBTQ+ feel welcome and safe? Respecting others’ experiences, listening without assumptions, and making room for different needs and identities are small steps that build a more compassionate world. We all benefit when everyone feels they belong.
How we can help as Local Guides using Maps
As Local Guides, we’re in a unique position to drive positive change in our communities. By sharing accessibility information—like whether a place has ramps, wide doors, or accessible restrooms—we help people with mobility challenges navigate the world more easily. And by marking businesses as LGBTQ+ friendly or supporting those owned by people with disabilities, we create safer, more welcoming spaces for everyone. Every a thoughtful review , photo, or note we share helps someone feel safer, supported, and seen. Here are few ways to make Maps contributions helpful to the LGBTQ+ community around us !
Pride Disability Month reminds us that inclusion is not just a value—it’s a practice. And as Local Guides, we have the tools to turn that practice into action, one contribution at a time.
