Prayagraj's Triveni Sangam the most revered pilgrimage.

Triveni Sangam, Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, India.

Prayagraj Sangam is the most popular tourist attraction and pilgrimage, it’s also known as Triveni Sangam though two holy Rivers are visible and Saraswati is invisible. Its importance is endorsed in many Hindu texts. I would like share the few information about this pilgrimage which I gathered from the locals.

Emperor Akbar was illiterate but knowledgeable. He founded the city of Ilahbas in 1578 AD and he built his fort in the vicinity of merger of holy Rivers Ganga and Yamuna, which later came to be known as Allahabad, i.e. the city of Allah because Akbar was well aware of the importance of Sangam and the City.

This historical city had the distinction of being the religious and cultural center of India and still is today. Not only the Mughals but the British were also well aware of the importance of this city. Its purity is manifested by its references in the Puranas, the Ramayana and the Mahabharata which are the holy Hindu texts.

According to Hindu mythology, Lord Brahma, the creator of the Trimurti, at the beginning of creation chose this land means Prayag on the earth to perform the ‘Prakrit Yagya’ and gave Prayag the honor of being the king of all pilgrimages, thus Prayagraj is the most revered pilgrimage site. According to the Padam Purana Prayagraj is the best pilgrimage among all. There is mention of bathing importance in Prayag in Brahma Purana- Bathing in Prayag in the month of Magh at the confluence of Ganga-Yamuna or bathing on the banks gives the result of countless Ashwamedha Yagyas performed. Description of Prayag is found in Vedic and Buddhist literature. Here sage Bhardwaj who lived around 5000 years BC, had thousands of disciples and was the greatest philosopher of the world.

I found this is one of the chief tourist attractions and thousands of tourists and pilgrims are visiting. Many country restaurants, washrooms and transport means like e rickshaws are available. I enjoyed the bath, boating, playing with birds and the scenic Sun set view.
