Prague’s Astronomical Clock celebrates 613th anniversary.

Prague’s legendary Astronomical Clock (Staroměstský orloj), the masterpiece cloaked in centuries-old tales, commemorates a remarkable anniversary as it celebrates 613 years on 9th October 2023.

The oldest part of the Astronomical Clock, the mechanical clock and astronomical dial, dates back to 1410 when it was made by clockmaker Mikuláš of Kadaň and Jan Šindel, a professor of mathematics and astronomy at Charles University.

Later, presumably around 1490, a calendar dial was added and the clock facade was decorated with gothic sculptures.

I’m especially fond of this clock because I got married next door in the Old Town Hall, and had photos taken in front of the clock. I have also lived in Prague and passed by very often.

Beautiful post about some great memories, @TheEagleEye

You are giving me one more reason to visit Prague soon.

Nice photos

Thanks for sharing this with us (me) @TheEagleEye . I live here and I wasn’t aware of such a celebration, shame on me :face_with_peeking_eye:.

@ErmesT You are more than welcome in Prague :czech_republic: .

There are many anniversaries in my own country that I don’t know about also @Rohlik . I had been reading about some anniversaries in Czech Republic. When I lived in Prague, I showed my wife many things that she didn’t know about, even though she had lived there all her life.

I met you are Connect Live 2019. I hope all is well with you.

I’m currently based in New Zealand but do get to prague often and elsewhere.
