This was posted up on the Local Guides section of Reddit by another Local Guide. As a UK LG it’s not something I’ve seen myself so I can’t confirm it’s 100% real or that it’s being sent to all LGs in the UK but one to keep an eye out for if you are potentially thinking of buying a Chromebook soon.
The message on Reddit suggests it has to be used by the end of September 2020. The cheapest one AO have available currently is £179.
I’d be really interested to know if any other UK Local Guides have received this, I wonder if it’s going to be like the socks where they have picked a particular level to target with a perk?
@PaulPavlinovich - thanks for your consideration, I’ve edited accordingly but I felt a perk was more suited as an achievement discussion than a “how to” but I guess the fact I’m also asking if anyone else has received it shifts the balance a little.
I can’t answer you question but I can tell you I just converted 2 older laptops into chrome books. Runs great and start up is super fast. But I have not been able to find a solution to edit my photos. Online services are not good enough for me. And my old laptops are unable to run Android apps which could have saved my doubts about moving from windows to a Chrome book.
It is more visible in How-To since you’re asking a question @turbotapeworm it is more likely to be seen than in the achievements topic. Its the kind of thing that will need an answer from a Googler. The Connect Moderators are not generally aware of localised perks.
I used “Cloudready” to convert the old laptops and this is what I found after searching for “cloudready android apps”:
Google has added support for running Android apps via integration with the Google Play Store on many Chromebooks. Due to multiple legal and technical constraints, this functionality is not available on CloudReady. Currently, Neverware has no plans to add this functionality. 29. maj 2019
I did not research a lot before choosing cloudready.
Arhh. Found this. I guess my hardware is not dedicated.
I’ve never heard of Cloud Ready @MortenCopenhagen Chromium OS is open source so I imagine there are 3rd party package and support providers like there are with most open source things.
