Please fix transit stations visibility on Google Maps app

Hi,

This is a feature request for Google.

When we open a transit POI on Google Maps, like bus stops or subway stations, if it is managed by the respective organization/corporation, Maps shows the schedule (departure board).

But if it is not managed/not claimed by any organization, or it doesn’t contain a schedule, it shows an empty page. Then, we have to tap on “Details” to see the information/reviews/photos of the place.

This causes people not to see the reviews/photos section at a glance, and they may think the correct POI is missing from the map, so they add it again—often with inaccurate categories! For example, this is Sadeghiyeh Metro Station, and this is its duplicate.

In a country like Iran, where transit partnerships aren’t available, this happens a lot. For many subway stations, you see duplicate POIs in different categories. In many cases, the reviews and photos on the duplicate POI are even more than on the main POI (with the correct category)!

This issue exists on the app, while in the web version, the departure board is just part of the POI information, like photos and reviews.

I think it is simple to fix this issue. It just needs an “if” condition: when the travel schedule is available for a transit station, show it; but if not, start with the Details tab.

And it would be even better if it always started with the Details tab, with a “departure board” button on it—similar to what is currently available in the web version.

So, I request that Google fix this issue on Maps.

What do you think? Did you face such an issue? Which solution is better in your opinion?

Sounds like a great idea.

Opening Google Maps by clicking it on the map on Desktop Maps, everything works fine. So I believe your concernn is related to the mobile apps only.

Yes @MortenCopenhagen I also mentioned in the title and context that the issue is on the app.

This has also happened in my country, and I have suggested Google to fix this issue (for example, merging the reviews and photos of the “duplicates” into the official pinpoints). I thought that the duplicates could be appear because of the existing train station has been active for so many years, so the “duplicate” pinpoints probably have been made earlier before the pinpoints from the input of transit system by the government.

Sadeghieh is part of line 5, right? I wonder why Sadeghieh and Chitgar have a logo M with circle, while Eram-e Sabz hasn’t.

@ALG87 Indeed, as I mentioned, we don’t have a transit partnership in Iran, and the government/municipality is not able to add such a point officially, and as the owner. The points you see with accurate categories (subway/railways/bus stops) were added by us in Map Maker.

The duplicate points added in recent years by users, after Google changed the way of showing transit POIs, and gave priority to the departure board on the app.

And, you’re right. It is a cross station of lines 2 and 5. We also added Eram-e Sabz in Map Maker times, but in few years ago, it was wrongly merged with the nearest transit station (bus terminal). So, you see nearly all reviews/photos on the Shaghayegh Bus Terminal are related to the Eram-e Sabz metro station!

It’s nice that you’re familiar with the subway map of Tehran. Have you traveled to Iran so far?

Wow, I just know about the Map Maker. I’m trying to look for it, but unfortunately it has been shut downed by Google. Something that really makes me amazed is the symbol of the places are drawn as a circle with “M” logo, something that can’t be made by us right now unless we are being part of Map Transit program (but usually the one who involved in this program is the local government, kind of complicated), CMIIW.

I see. So that’s why that Eram-e Sabz doesn’t have the logo.

Not yet, unfortunately. Hopefully some day in the future!
I usually learn about subway system through Google Maps and Wikipedia.
