Dear Local Guides
I’m happy to share that I have been able to initiate, my first-ever community workshop on #MenstrualSustainability, with rural women as the focus.
Earlier, I had shared my intent through my post about initiating a menstrual sustainability workshop.link To previous post
This workshop marks the first step toward turning that commitment into action.
This initiative has been close to my heart. From conceptualising the content to creating the banner, customising T-shirts, and preparing a hands-on demo kit, coordinating with an NGO, finalising the venue, and setting the date, all for contributing towards, something i was passionate about. The entire journey has been a powerful learning experience.
I’m deeply grateful to @Shalz for volunteering and co-hosting this workshop with me.
As this was our very first workshop on #Menstrual Sustainability, both of us were thrilled to come together to host a session that has grown from a personal conviction into a collective call for change,
Our goal was simple, to shift the conversation from disposal to durability, and from cost to conscious living.
The energy in the room was truly uplifting as 35 enthusiastic women gathered for a session they had willingly chosen to attend.
We thanked them for showing up ,engaging wholeheartedly and committing to a greener future.
The Power of Purpose
The Session began with setting the stage with banners and demo kit.We didn’t just talk about periods we talked about impact. Using a series of three dedicated presentations, we walked attendees through the essential questions:
-
What is Menstrual Sustainability? Defining the environmental, economic, and health imperatives.
-
Why is it Necessary?
Discussing the alarming plastic waste, toxic load and Long term effects of conventional products.
- How Can We Help? Highlighting accessible, long term and sustainable alternatives.
It was heartening to see the lightbulb moments as we demonstrated and discussed the alternatives. We held up various sustainable pads and products, not just talking about them, but showing why they are beneficial for the environment .
Zero waste, reusable options crafted from planet friendly materials. Our purpose was to positively replace confusion with clarity and hesitation with action.
Building a Movement, Not Just an Event
The success of the day was truly a collective effort. Seeing the host and co-host proudly wearing customised T-shirts and standing beside the eye catching banner reinforced that this was not just a workshop it was a community driven exercise.
The most powerful moment came at the very end. When we acknowledged that the real change happens through community. Together we took a Pledge to share our new knowledge and commit to making at least ONE other woman aware of menstrual sustainability and the sustainable alternatives available. This simple pledge made our impact exponential. Every woman who walked out is now a certified advocate, ready to carry the message forward. Our positive purpose has been realised, and a seed for future has been planted.
This is only the beginning. The workshop reaffirmed that when women are given the right knowledge they are ready to embrace more sustainable choices for themselves and for Mother Earth .
Change begins with awareness, and awareness begins with conversation. This first workshop has strengthened my resolve to keep working toward #Menstrual Sustainability at the grassroots level.
A heartfelt thanks to @Shalz once again for attending, volunteering, and co-hosting this workshop.
Dear LGs, I would love to hear from you what is one thought or reflection this initiative sparked for you?
