On our second day of the trip, we gave a visit to ‘City Palace’, ‘Jantar Mantar’, ‘Hawa Mahal’ and ‘Albert Hall Museum’.
‘City Palace’ - It is located in the middle of the old city of Jaipur. It has gardens, courtyards, a temple and a museum to give it a grand view that reflects its historical importance and magnificent royal grace.
Two main attractions in the complex are the ‘Chandra Mahal’ and the ‘Mubarak Mahal’. Apart from that, there are Pritam Niwas Chowk, Diwan-e-Aam, Diwan-e-khas, which are also very beautiful.
Famous historic items displayed in the City Palace include two big silver jars which were used by the Maharajas to carry holy water (Gangajal) with them on long abroad tours.
It took us around 2 hours to traverse the entire Palace and all of its attractions.
‘Jantar Mantar’ - Later we visited ‘Jantar Mantar’. City Palace, Jantar Mantar & Hawa Mahal are at a walking distance from each other so are very close. Jantar Mantar’ is an astronomical observatory used to measure the distances and positions of celestial objects. The most significant among these is the ‘Samrat Yantra’ which is the largest sundial in the country. This place is worth a visit because of its scientific marvels, designs and clean gardens.
‘Hawa Mahal’ – Later, we visited ‘Hawa Mahal’. It is a five storied Palace which is located very near to City Palace. The walls of the Palace have number of windows or overhanging balconies from where cool and fresh air passes. ‘Hawa’ means wind & ‘Mahal’ means Palace, so it is the Palace of Winds.
Apart from the beautiful architecture and the breeziness of the Palace there is museum which has a wonderful collection of antiques, weapons and articles used by royal families.
‘Albert Hall Museum’ - We visited ‘Albert Hall Museum’ in the evening, which is located in Ram Niwas Garden, and is about 3 km away from City Palace.
This museum provides exclusive collection of artifacts, objects and other art forms. There are 16 galleries inside the museum, namely Metal Art, Arms and Armor, Pottery, Sculptures, Miniature Paintings, Clay Works, Marble Art, International Art, Ivory, Jewelry, Furniture, Coins, Musical Instruments, Garments & Carpets.
@vijayparadkar In this post, I like Samrat Yantra. It is amazing how people created this sundial in the past to know the time of the day. Its design is beautiful and unique. What is your favorite spot in this post? Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
We were completely mesmerized by looking at the Yantras in ‘Jantar Mantar’ too. It also had Yantras for calculating months, years, placements of different celestial bodies at different periods in the sky, etc.
Every place in Jaipur is worth a visit, but the one which appealed the most to us was ‘Albert Hall Museum’ because of its huge collection of historic artifacts and antiques.
Jaipur city is worth a visit, it is one of the most visited tourist attractions in India. I feel honored to get your acknowledgement because my main motive behind sharing these posts is helping out fellow enthusiasts in planning their own trips.
Indeed it would be really informative, should it contain interesting information such as your reply regarding the Yantras, as to learn more about the locations that are being acknowledged as heritage, for further generations to witness.
I wanted to cover the entire essence of all the main tourist attractions in ‘Jaipur’ city. This is why I have kept the details of individual places concise and short.
The official website catalogs the essential information regarding all the artifacts in Jantar Mantar for all the enthusiasts.
Here is a link of Jantar Mantar organization giving in depth information of all the Yantras and history of Sawaii Jai Singh, Creator of the observatory.
I am going to make a special trip for Albert Hall museum since walking around with small kids could be challenging as small children do not find anything interesting after the first 10 minutes.
How much time do you think it will require to see the full museum peacefully?
This is such a beautiful post. You gave a very detailed information and photos.
I always wanted to visit the Pink City, especially the City Palace and Hawa Mahal. The places are very popular in social media. I saw some of my friends going there. Definitely on my bucket list!
I am glad that, you found it beautiful. ‘Jaipur’ city is one of the gorgeous cities in the world and is one of the most visited tourist attractions in India.
It is in your bucket list so I wish you could visit it someday.
