Phu Yen - A Hidden Charm of Vietnam

If you are trying to find an original place to visit in Vietnam, give Phu Yen a chance. If you cannot decide between beaches and mountains, Phu Yen has them all - stunning natural landscapes, beautiful bays, pristine beaches, friendly locals, delicious food and so on.

1. Vung Ro Bay

When I first arrived in Phu Yen province in the mid-afternoon, I visited a small fishing village in Vung Ro Bay, where locals mostly rely on the ocean for their livelihoods. With the turquoise-blue ocean, clear blue sky and soft yellow sand, I cannot recommend this destination highly enough. On the way to Vung Ro Bay, you can see Hon Yen (Yen Islet), which is recognised as a national relic site in 2018.

2. Da Dia Reef

Visiting Da Dia Reef has been one of the most eye-opening experiences I have ever had. Located in An Ninh Dong commune, Tuy An district, Phu Yen province, Da Dia reef, which has a width of about 50m and a length of more than 200m, is a natural beauty destination hardly found somewhere else. Its stones are placed in columns very closely together with hexagonal shapes or round ones as dishes. That is the reason why this place is called Da Dia reef. The entrance ticket is cheap, around 10,000 vnd/person. I highly recommend this place because of its pristine beauty and pure environment, which will absolutely leave unforgettable memories and feelings in the mind of visitors.

3. Mui Dien Cape Lighthouse

I’m pretty sure you will fall in love with this place once you come to visit it. This place is a perfect combination of the beautiful beach (Mon beach), a short hike and an incredible lighthouse view. We came here in the late afternoon at about 5pm and it took us about 20 mins to get to Mui Dien cape lighthouse. I would recommend you to visit this place on sunny days.

4. Nhan Tower

I visited the over 800-year-old Nhan Tower in the late afternoon, after visiting Mui Dien cape lighthouse and Mon beach. I was told that this place is famous for its anecdotes, so I did some research when drafting my plan for the trip to Phu Yen. The Nhan Tower, known to the locals as Cham Tower, is located on a hilltop close to Nhan Mountain, on the north side of Da Rang river. The tower, which is one of the last remaining pieces of the majestic Champa Kingdom, coupled with its unique shape, has become invaluable and historically and been considered as a typical symbol of Tuy Hoa city. The top of the tower is like a tern. Someone says that there were many flamingos in the mountain in the old days, so locals called “Nhan”. Interestingly, from the ground floor under the tower, you can also enjoy the night views of the city.

5. Bai Xep in the film “I see yellow flowers on the green grass” (2015) by Victor Vu

Thanks to “I see yellow flowers on the green grass” movie released in 2015 by Vietnamese-American filmmaker - Victor Vu, a stunning picturesque of Phu Yen shown in the film has left a deep impression on the viewers. Here is one of the landscapes with Bai Xep (Xep beach) view featured in this movie, which has helped Phu Yen find fame and start attracting visitors since 2015.

Let’s come to experience it on your own!

Hey @HuongNg ,

Thanks for the great post! As I was reading it, I felt like I’ve already visited the places even though I haven’t stet

foot in Vietnam. Your photos are great and the information is enough for someone to be convinced to visit these places on their own. My favourite one is Da Die Reef, what about yours?

Hi @Anino ,

I’m glad you enjoyed my guide. I hope you and your son stay safe and healthy during this difficult period of time.

I’m currently living in Ho Chi Minh city. Honestly, I did visit these beautiful places by motorbike (from HCMC to Phu Yen province) almost 2 years ago.

I would recommend you to take a direct flight from HCMC to Tuy Hoa (the capital city of Phu Yen province). Then you can rent a motorbike or car there to go and visit these places. Please find here the detailed maps: https://goo.gl/maps/EDUamJKpsjbLeiiy5

Hope this will help!
