South Mumbai has been blessed with the beauty of elegant architecture as well as the magnificent sea. It is a photographer’s heaven and that one area of this city where just a walk through the lanes will result in you witnessing something beautiful to watch and aesthetically contrasting to capture. I wandered through these lanes and picked up on sights which made me feel or see something. Below are some of the picks from my walk in and around the Fort area of South Mumbai.

It is not just the exteriors but even the newly revamped interiors as well as the ceilings which are quite captivating themselves.

The architecture of CSMT is inspired from Victorian Goth and has a strong Italian influence. The monument which was erected in the 1800s shows a blend of these two along with the touch of Indian Royalty. It is not the history that I wish to talk about but the sheer elegance and beauty of this structure which takes my breath away every single day. It has been a part of my daily routine for years now and it is only from here that one can go ahead and experience the lanes of South Mumbai.

I started the walk here and then moved along the path towards Flora Fountain popularly known as the Fort area. Each and every building here is a reminiscent of the old times where Mumbai was known as "Bombay". The designs involve a lot of stone walls , white surfaces, elegant pillars and impeccable designs that make for the perfect composition of a frame.

The roads here are thronged with a lot of hawkers and stores as it is a highly commercial area. It is very difficult to set foot in an empty lane and just enjoy the beauty of it all. However, when you do manage to find one, you will surely stumble upon such soothing moments of peace.

It is not just the daytime, when the lanes come alive but even during the nights. Night time here is a witness to the calming silence and empty streets which one can usually just dream of, in Mumbai.

This one is around the Horniman Circle and has been an object of attention for all photographers due to the curvature that the area offers but to me, it is the sandstone walls above with all the brands setting shop below which bring time together, a blend of the past and the present.

The lanes here are not just about history but literature too. Footwalks are hoarded by booksellers and this one particularly in the frame has been there for decades. It is easily one of the biggest roadside bookstall in Mumbai with access to all kinds of books from romance novels to MBA reference books.

Thank you for sharing this incredible photo walk with us, and congratulation for the initiative.

I’ve never been to Mumbai, but all I know about it is that it’s the land of Bollywood and the place for those who look for contrasts! There is something for everyone.
