Photo upload not working (Maps & Google Photos)

Process:

  1. Open location in Maps

  2. Click “add a photo”

  3. This appears:

  1. You can click “Folder” and see the images

  2. Select images and click “done”

  3. The “preview” page appears

  1. Click “post”

  2. Confirmation window appears with points tally

  1. The photos don’t appear on the listing at the location in question or under “contributions”.

  2. Sometimes they do.

Overall view count is still broken too (obviously)

Is anyone else experiencing this? It’s the same if I go to the image first and try to “share to” Maps.

(Android, latest versions of respective apps)

Are those photos visible in your own list of photo contributions?

If so this happens to maybe 5-10 percent of my photos. They are rejected. I have posted about this earlier.

Hi @MortenCopenhagen - thanks for replying. I tried a second time, still with the missing thumbnail images and it worked. Images show on the place and under my contributions.

I’m more concerned with the lack of images showing during the selection process (where it would normally try and choose the ones it thinks are from that place) than the actual uploads to be honest. It just seems like something (else) is broken all of a sudden.

Have you upgraded to Android 11 @turbotapeworm ? If you have, upgrade also the latest version of Maps. I had this problem when I first upgraded and a fix came out for it.

Still Android 10 here @PaulPavlinovich - I’m on Maps 10.51.1 from the 21st of September no updates are showing as being available.

It’s not a huge issue for me as it kind of works still but I just wanted to raise it as a question to see if anyone else was affected as it seemed to come on quite suddenly despite none of the apps involved having been updated at that time.

Maybe something on my phone has triggered it, too many photos or something else… I’m sure it’ll work itself out eventually.

Maps does different things based on back end services @turbotapeworm sometimes a backend update can trigger unexpected behaviour in the App without any apparent update to the user. I’ve just checked my phone and it seems to be working ok so hopefully it will resolve.

I did help another person with a similar issue and it turned out their phone was actually full, I would imagine you’d be experiencing other issues as well not just Maps but perhaps check that just in case.

I have 400GB of free space @PaulPavlinovich but do have 35GB of images stored so who knows :rofl:

As you say hopefully it’s just a backend blip, I thought I’d just log it here for awareness and see if I was alone… which I seem to be which is a good thing.

What I can see @turbotapeworm , is that some of your latest upload are duplicate (on your profile and in the POI), maybe due to the fact that you tried to upload the photos again, as the photos weren’t visible on your profile.

Regarding the visualization, mine are actually increasing day by day, or at least this happened on the latest three days. I don’t check my visualization daily, but I did after reading your post :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks for looking at that @ErmesT - I was concerned there might be duplication and have been checking since submitting but oddly in the app I only see 1 of each image. I’ll recheck and delete once I can see them :slightly_smiling_face:

Edit: I suddenly see the duplicates, oddly they were the images I first uploaded and ones I submitted afterwards appear before them - I’ll have a tidy up.

Sounds like they were sitting in your upload queue but were not getting through for some reason @turbotapeworm then off they went.

Is the issue resolved now?

I haven’t uploaded much recently @PaulPavlinovich but the issue with the gallery image not showing still exists, the images do seem to get uploaded though.

Hopefully things will normalise when the next update drops or I’ll just have to live with it :slightly_smiling_face:

The only other suggestion I could make to try is factory reset the phone but I really don’t want you to do that because I know how painful it is having done it myself a few times.

Cheers @PaulPavlinovich - I’ll cope one way or another, it was more a case of posting here to see if it was a widespread issue to begin with, if it’s just me / my device then it’s all cool :slightly_smiling_face:

I’ve since found that if I leave the blank page open to select images from it eventually populates with gallery images, this takes around 45-60 seconds.

So it could be that I have too many images in my gallery as mentioned earlier but you’d hope that the app would mitigate against such things and try to load, from the gallery app made by the same company, the first 20, then 30 and so on until they all appeared. Having it blank to start with is just off-putting.
