This Photo of the Week, captured by Local Guide Stephen Bruns, was taken at a town square in Cannaregio, a district in Venice, Italy. Our eye is drawn to the interesting buildings and the use of angles in the shot.
How do we select the Photo of the Week?
The Local Guides Photo of the Week is chosen based on a variety of criteria. Location, subject matter, and image quality factor into our selection, but view counts do not. Hi @KatieMcBroom Nice Photography. Thank you very much for the awesome capture sharing with us and Congrats! Stephen Bruns for your Beautiful photography.
Cannaregio is one of the most interesting district (we call them Sestrieri) of Venice. The Jewish getto is there too. Passing the beautiful Bridge of the three arches, you enter in an area with no tourist, quiet, where the Venetians live. Here a winter view of Campo dei Gesuiti, in Cannaregio
I never knew about the Jewish ghetto there. I heard that Venice these days has less and less people living there and most of the travel is from tourism. Could you confirm this?
you enter a Venice forgets over time, all peaceful and magnificent as the “Jewish Ghetto”, a Venice that absorbs you and remains in your heart. Recommended to get away from tourists and enjoy it as a local.
People from the south of the Mediterranean area (called Moors at that time in Venice) had their business in there. You may find interesting this 360 of Campo dei Mori, in Cannaregio, with the statues of the Rioba Brothers, Merchants in Venice on the 11th century.
