Pátio do Colégio

I live in São Paulo, but with the COVID-19 Pandemic we stopped our lives all over the world, and one of the stops was not being able to go out to explore the various places that my city has.

It had been two years since I walked around the Historic Center of São Paulo (Brazil), to see the colors and the contrasts between the cool and the sad, which the city unfortunately shows. In the midst of a jungle of stones, in the midst of a world of tourist attractions, there is the part that no one likes to see, which is that of people living on the streets (or by choice, as they did not like their homes and their families, or because they came to try a new life in a big city, and unfortunately it didn’t work out).

But in the midst of all this, today I came to present the Pátio do Colégio:
The Pátio do Colégio is where the first construction of the current City of São Paulo was erected, when Father Manuel da Nóbrega and the then novice José de Anchieta, as well as other Jesuit priests at the request of Portugal and the Society of Jesus, established a nucleus for the purpose of catechizing indigenous people in the Planalto.
An apostolic work belonging to the Society of Jesus (a religious group), and comprises the Anchieta Museum, the Manoel da Nóbrega Auditorium, the Tenerife Gallery, the Canary Islands Square, the Beato José de Anchieta Church and the Tibiriça Crypt (the only place to which be photographed).
It was opened on January 25, 1554.
The place is located in Bairro da Sé, and can be reached by subway, bus or private transport. To visit the museum, a payment of R$2.00 is required. In this way it is possible to check all the internal content of books and scriptures from that time, as well as photos and objects.
For those who like souvenirs, right at the entrance to the Patio there is a shop with some souvenirs to buy and take home.

Unfortunately, the upper part of the museum is not accessible, with access stairs, but without elevators. However, it is possible to count on the help of security guards to help people with physical disabilities.

I hope you enjoy this tour, and plan for your next trips around the world.

@GasparKaren Happy that you can move around easier now to visit places. I had the same experience of going out and visiting a place after so long of lockdowns, and it was just refreshing. Nice to see photos of the historic city center. Keep sharing more photos and places with us.

I would suggest also to add a link to the places on Google Maps when you write a nice post like this. So others can easily find the place as well.
