This post is to share with everyone about pasar malam, or night market, in Singapore.
If you have photos too, feel free to share photos of them here!
Pasar malam here is unlike night markets in Taiwan, as the stalls here are housed in temporary fixtures and move from place to place.
When I was a child, I always look forward to having pasar malam in the neighbourhood. We can get lots of old school snacks there like steamed groundnuts, steamed cakes, tutu kueh and muah chee. Some of these snacks have become easily available in malls these days and pasar malam had evolved to also include stalls that sell ramly burger, Taiwanese snacks that one can find in a typical night market, fried snacks, Thai iced tea and bubble tea etc.
Today I spotted a pasar malam at Punggol MRT station, on the side of the bus interchange! (The other side has the shopping mall Waterway Point)
I was super excited, took some pics, bought a snack and quickly came back to post after finishing my savoury snack!
Bought the grilled king oyster mushroom snack which is chewy and juicy. It’s popular in Taiwan during my last trip but we always ended up buying the deepfried mushrooms back then, and I really wanted to try this so I bought this tonight. This serving costs me S$5. There are 7 flavours to pick from and you can choose to have 2 flavours in one serving.
Also tempted to get the Thai iced tea but I’m trying not to take too much sugar now… maybe the next time I spot a pasar malam I’ll try and post it here

The mushrooms look delicious @mdmkoo . By the way, did you know you can edit the post, and why not add these photos there? This way your post will be more engaging.
Thank you @InaS , that’s good info! Don’t have to apologise, it’s no fault of you, I understand that’s how forums like this work to protect the interest of everyone here.
And yea, earlier I was editing on my mobile device and I had difficulty moving my cursor when editing so I gave up and made a new post as my pics were all in my mobile device. Now that they’ve been uploaded, easier for me to edit and I’ve included them in the original post. Thanks!
@JulienH yea for a small handful of snack it’s considered pricey, but I do realize king osyter mushrooms aren’t really cheap to begin with… probably with overheads and have to pay for manpower… there’s 3 staff at the stall when I was there! Definitely not something I’ll eat often though with that price The next time I eat it is probably in Taiwan
Last night I went to the new pasar malam… it’s along Punggol Central again! Same stretch but this time bigger scale, with kids’ carnival! Took a video yesterday and will be editing it and sharing it soon!
