Parade of Ogoh-ogoh 2019 in Surabaya

Every year, a day before Nyepi (Day of Silence) - Hindu’s celebration of Saka New Year, Hindus in Surabaya held Parade of Ogoh-ogoh. The purpose of this ritual is to drive away devils from public places and put them back to their place. About 2000 participants (Hindus and Non-Hindus) come to Pura Segara (Segara Temple) walk along with Ogoh-Ogoh about 4 km.

Ogoh-ogoh is representative of demons or bad spirits so the appearance looks lil bit scary. This year’s main Ogoh-ogoh inspired by Pirates of the Carribean, carried by TNI-AL Surabaya.

So, have you ever joined a Religious Parade / Ritual like this? Share here!

Anyway, Happy Day of Silence. Wish you have a peaceful life ahead.
