Palm sweet, popular sweet among Cambodians

On weekends, my sister often cooks dessert and sweet while I love cooking complicated dishes.

This weekend, we came up with palm fruit dessert. It is common for local people as palm trees are available almost everywhere. However, when you go to the weeding reception you will see they serve this dessert sometimes only and it becomes very valuable.

Ingredients

  • Palm fruits, 30-40 fruits
  • Tapioca (long and round, 2-3tbs) [In most case, they use sticky rice together with palm fruits, they have to soak sticky rice in the water for 10-15mns]
  • Palm sugar (2-3tbs/0.4kg)
  • Condensed milk (1-2tbs)
  • Coconut cream (2-3tbs)
  • Salt (0.5tbs)

Preparation and cooking

  • Peel off the skin, clean and cut into small pieces (2-3 pieces per fruit)
  • Soak tapioca for 5-10mns, then rinse it and keep aside
  • Put palm sugar in the port and water (1Liter), put on the stove with medium heat, then add salt and coconut cream.
  • Add palm fruits, tapioca and condensed milk.
  • Check if they are sweet enough. Then, take the pot off the stove
  • It is ready to eat, take it in small bowl, keep for a bit colder and can be eaten now!

You can have them while they are still hot while some other put them in the refrigerator first.

It really looks delicious @Sophia_Cambodia . I think it will be tastier after keeping it in the refrigerator. What do you think? Thanks for sharing this nice dish with us. Stay safe.

Yes, you are absolutely right @MukulR you can either put small cube of ice in the bowl while eating or just keep them in the refrigerator. This will lessen sweetness if you don’t like them to be to sweet. Putting a bit of salt helps to enrich sweetness while cooking.

Btw, I have a Bird Watching in Cambodia session this evening at 19:00 Cambodian time. You are welcome to join!

It tastes so good so I understood why you love it @rizbab28 this fruit we can eat fresh without doing anything or mixing them with cucumber, put icecube and drop palm sugar sauce. They all are equally tasty!

You are absolutely right as in the month of March I was in coastal area there I enjoyed every day. As it’s rich in minerals and vitamins, no doubt a healthy option for people on diet or suffering from diabetes. It is a rich source of vitamins B and C, iron, zinc, potassium, calcium, phosphorus, thiamine, and riboflavin. It’s also good for skin care.

Regards, Thanks and thanks a lot dear @Nyainurjanah
