Other UI Changes

While we’re all rejoicing that the contribution badge data visibility in the mobile apps has been reinstated, did anyone else notice other changes silently taking place?

Today I noticed that the desktop page profile header has changed, and is now smaller, with a less prominent display of total points earned. No real damage done there.

Meanwhile, back on mobile, I’ve noticed for a few weeks now that it is impossible to see the badge data of other Local Guides. There’s just a photo of the badge and a statement below explaining what the award is for.

Hi @tony_b

I have seen the new design on desktop for more than a week now.

I just tested your second observation. And I can confirm it. The trick to open the profile via a photo is not working.

Let me tag @AdamGT and @AngieYC to ensure they are aware of this.

Thanks for the head-up @tony_b. Occasionally, but not always, I see the new layout since quite a while and didn’t pay much attention to in the first place.

However, not only the profile banner did change, but also the contributions page:

Very recently, I noticed the latter does have an influence on the results of the T100 Scout. Whenever the new layout appears after start the Scout, the points reported show 10 millions too many, Probably my level ‘10’ gets placed to the left of the number of points:

Thanks for that additional point @WilfriedB. I hadn’t clicked right through, so I missed that detail. But it is strange that it should affect the results of the T100 Scout. Hope that’s not a permanent flaw.

Because of the way these kind of “scrappers” work, any little change of the layout, can have more or less consequences. I am sure, @AdamGT finds a solution - just a matter of time and his workload. But it is wise to carefully look at the delta, when doing the next update at the end of the month.

I know, it sounds very strange @tony_b, but it is quite complex for any programmer to analyze data which is meant to be read by humans. Any little change, such as moving one field from left to right can cause a change for the program or script with tries to read that information.

The essence of Adam’s suggestion is not the button, but rather the output created by clicking the button, which should be structured, well defined and consistent.

I believe that this is part of the fresh new look for Local Guides announced by @TiffanyBnyc and currently being rolled out. You mention that you noticed this on desktop @tony_b and you may also have seen the new refreshed look on mobile (see this post).

Yes that is happening on Android not I noticed not on iOS. Again this might be part of the new UI being rolled out.

That’s right @WilfriedB and yes it has disrupted the T100 Scout’s so my hope is that until I get to it, the significantly large delta will alert you to it so you can make a manual adjustment.

As @Wilfried mentions @tony_b, scouts like that of the T100 are very sensitive to UI changes. Even subtle changes can have a major impact. Hopefully I’ll get Scout on the operating table soon. In the meantime, that delta is your best friend

Yes, we’ve all been discussing the mobile changes, but I just noticed this new desktop appearance.

Okay. Strange that there’s always a difference between OS platforms. I guess we just have to wait till it settles down then.

@tony_b after I saw the new layout on the mobile for the first time yesterday, but without the exact numbers, I do see the numbers now:

Useless the /1000 on the right of the numbers, but better than no details at all.
