Here is a link to the post which explains more in detail about the follow option in Maps.
Though the feature is not yet available in many cities, that’s now active for a few more LGs from these other cities too.
The full rollout of the feature may take some more time because of the resources crunch at present.

Hi @Soulopoulos like most things Google changes are rolled out usually to small community segments at a time to see how they are received and if they need tweaking or if they survive at all.
It isn’t just by city, for example I know several people in Melbourne who can be followed, but I cannot.
I imagine like many things, the roll out likely paused with recent world events.

Im Local Guide 9 and still dont have that option available
