This is my first time posting a thread on here so I appreciate any insight or feedback received.
I posted a review of a restaurant back in 2022, with a video that became one of my most viewed pieces of content on the platform. The video was even the face of their google reviews page, needless to say I was pretty proud of that.
Yesterday, I visited the same restaurant and wanted to add some more pics onto my original review. Only 1 of my 5 new photos were published, and my original video was deleted. It is no longer the face of their reviews page, and it does not show up in my media on that review.
However, it does still show up in my most viewed section on my personal page, though I don’t see it on the restaurant page whatsoever.
I am quite sad about it, wondering if anyone can help me out with this. Wondering if anyone went through this or has a fix / advice.
I think the reason for this could be that the spamfilters are constantly evolving. When you update a view text or add more photos this will trigger the spamfilters to make another check if the entire review.
I’m not aware of any tips or tricks to remedi this situation.
Maybe the spamfilters did what Google intended or maybe it over stepped/made a mistake.
I suggest you share:
A screenshot showing the newly added photos.
Share the video via Google Photos or YouTube.
The review text.
The place link.
After a check there is likely a form you can try to request a manual check.
Hello @yoyoreviews welcome to the Local Guides community!
regarding:
I don’t have a fix for this particular situation, but some suggestions for the future:
I prefer to keep reviews and media posts separate and never attach a photo or video to the review but directly to the listing. This way you can edit the review text whenever you want without touching the media. For attached photos or videos, the SPAM filter reconsiders each of them even if you changed only a single word of the text.
You video was not deleted but rather one of the these possibilities:
Either the SPAM filter decided not publish it because of some suspicious content. This can even happen after it was published for a long time. However, i don’t think this happened, because according to my experience, the entire review would be hidden too.
Or (more likely) it was pushed down in the gallery that you don’t find it any more by scrolling down.
A problem with the AI filter. In that case, you might be successful by submitting an appeal. You find more information here.
When asking for help here on Connect, it is always helpful to share a link to the place and a screenshot of the hidden contribution. That way, one of the other local guides here might be able to provide some tips.
Hi @yoyoreviews, oh no, that is absolutely heartbreaking! Losing a top-viewed video just because you tried to update or edit the review text is a serious bug, and it feels incredibly unfair.
Unfortunately, Google’s automated system scans edits very aggressively right now. Sometimes, when we touch an old review, it triggers a false positive error and deletes the media attached to it.
Don’t do any more edits on that specific review for now. Since this involved a video being deleted by a glitch, definitely wait here for a Connect Moderator to see this post so they can hopefully look into your account history or escalate the bug to the technical team. Really hope you get your video back!
