Festivals are in full swing in India & I am thrilled to share how I & fellow local guides celebrated the second day of Onam, Chithira with wonderful conversation & traditions.

Chithira marks the second day of Onam in Kerala & even more elaborate Pookalam or Flower mat can be seen as more flowers will be added each day of Onam which makes the design of mat stunning to look at.

This year’s Chithira was a special celebration with Chai Pe Charcha, an initiative by @TusharSuradkar. It’s all about connecting stories & enjoying a cup of Chai.

@SarathUpendran and I met today at Thiruvananthapuram for a casual meeting. We had a fantastic time for a cup of Chai at Mega Bites - Time for Chai.

What’s Onam without vibrant Pookalam ? While exploring, we found a stunning pookalam (flower mat) at PRS Hospital.

Even though we can see completed pookalam on the second day of Onam, traditionally; each layer of flower is added on each day of Onam ( as seen in above photo).

Today was a perfect day for tradition & connection with the spirit of Chai Pe Charcha.

We do in a single day to avoid going through the whole process but on those 10 days, each layer is done on each day & is completed on the 10th day.

In some regions in Kerala, some layer is redone on the next day also.

Combination of Onam and Chai pe Charcha is really something special @Rahul001 . Thanks for sharing the interesting information about the second day celebrations.
