I visited this cathedral about 6 years ago in Ivory coast and it’s a magnificent building. It really has become more of a tourist place than a religious place, yet once or twice in a year there is a mass held in here. Like Christmas or Easter mass which is are fairly important mass to the Catholics faith
The prototype is as beautiful as the structure itself as seen below
As at the time of my visit there it was the world’s largest basilica. It stands as tall as **S****aint Peter’s Basilica in Rome.**With a giant dome (as seen in the picture) of about 158 meters high. The Basilica built by the late president Felix Houphouet-Boigny in 1985,is situated in Yamoussoukro the capital city of Ivory coast. While Yamoussoukro is an administrative capital Abidjan is the economic capital of Ivory coast. It’s about 4-5 hours of travel from Abidjan the economic capital city of Ivory coast.
.It has a seating capacity of 7,000 and room for standing for worshippers of up to about 10,000. Its very serene and clean environment is so nice.
N.B about our lady of peace Basilica
It’s in a very remote area far away from the city centre
An hospital close by incase of emergency maybe for tourists
Nice and affordable guest house in the area run by the nuns and priest.
A token fee of about 2000 cfa to gain access in and obtain a tourist guide to take you through.
Some of the places of interest is high up to the dome as close as touching the golden cross at the apex.
We also visited a room in which the late Pope John Paul ll slept in during his visit to the place. The room is still well maintained with a certain temperature and etc. Critics has it that perhaps because of its cost of maintenance which is very high and so that its glory will not surpass the Vatican city’s the Vatican government took over the ownership of this Basilica.
P.S. This is my part of #monthlytopic of July initiated by Local guide @HiroyukiTakisawa which theme is a Religious Building or Monument. Hope its detailed enough and you enjoy the bits of information it contains. Have a good day and cheers.
Yes @TusharSuradkar it’s so quiet and nice there. It felt like Rome when I went . The only difference was it was mostly black faces around me which may not be in Rome.
Thanks for checkin out the post and thanks a million for all today 🏾

Hello @SholaIB . The cathedral is very beautiful . It is magnificent as I am seeing it in the pictures. We heard about it when it was completed and I am proud such an impressive cathedral exist in Africa. I will surely visit one day . I also want to go on West Africa tour like many Nigerians have done.
Thanks for sharing this interesting story with us! I admit I didn’t know about this impressive site, it is actually recalling St. Peter’s basilica in Rome for its dome and for the order of columns in front of it. Its dome is even taller than the one in Rome, if we don’t consider the lantern. Is there a mass every Sunday?
In case you haven’t seen them yet, I suggest the following helpful articles:
Thanks for the articles suggested. No they have no mass there really. Only very ceremonial masses like Easter or Christmas. Of course those are the periods when alot of tourists visit the place. Thanks for checking out the post.
