Not Able to See Updates or Manage Preferences in Google Maps iOS

Hi all! I’m not able to manage preferences or see updates on the Google Maps app for iPhone. I’ve checked all my setting in Google Admin and unless I missed anything I shouldn’t be having any issues…or are you not allowed access to these features if you use Google Workspace?

I will also mention that I’m on the Legacy Free Version of G Suite because I’ve had this account since 2009. I haven’t changed it to a subscription because I’ve yet to see a single person tell me a single benefit that I’m not already getting. Could this be the reason?

Or is it because my Google account is linked to an actual domain? If so that would be pretty dumb as it’s simple a portfolio page for my resume and not an actual business per se (https://daviddennison.com). I’ve seen that Google doesn’t prefer Workspace accounts for the obvious abuse of GMP. If that’s the case, is there somewhere I can submit my domain and get it verified as NOT a business?

It seems kind of ridiculous that they would limit features to paying customers (or not paying in my case hahah). I’ve really wanted to get into becoming a Local Guide and actually contributing to the community but stuff like this is making it hard. Appreciate any help in advance!

Thanks for tagging me @MortenCopenhagen

IMHO the problem is related to your G Suite Account. I don’t have a personale experience about the settings in iOS, as I am on Android, but the help page do not indicate any difference between Android and iOS in Get started with the updated Google Maps app

The Local Guides Program Terms and Conditions is not going so deep in explaining this, but it is just indicating that Google Workforce for Education accounts that are under 18 years of age, organizations, brands, and businesses are not eligible for the Program.

In your case, you are eligible for the program (Well, you in fact are in the Local Guide Program) however I would not be surprised to see some additional restriction for G Suite users. We have had many complaints in the past about students or people contributing with a company account, because they have finished school or simply changed jobs and lost all contributions, because “Contributions to Google Maps must originate from a single Google account to count towards benefits and cannot be transferred between owned accounts

Have you tried to check with a standard gmail account?

Thanks for replying @ErmesT

Since G Suite is ending anyways, I’m just going to upgrade to a regular workspace business account and hope that it fixes it haha

The support chat that I talked to said that my legacy account was the issue. So we’ll see!

@DavidDennison

If you one day might sell or close your business, I think you will be better off using a free (private) Gmail account. Remember contributions can not be transferred, and we should never mix business with being an independent and volunteer Local Guide.
