Google Maps makes traveling to new places much easier. Google Maps provides us with comprehensive information about geographical regions and locations around the world. Along with route maps, the app also provides satellite views of numerous locations. Using Google Maps we can find the best way to go from one place to another. We can also find nearby restaurants, parking lots, public restrooms, and other essentials during our trip.
Nevertheless, what should you do if you find yourself in a situation when there’s no internet access?
I am a nature lover who enjoys going for hikes in the woods. Network connectivity is practically non-existent in such a forested and mountainous location. It is quite tough to find a place or a route at this time. But, It’s still a good thing that we have Google offline maps for those scenarios. Do you know about the offline map future?
With this feature, you can download the map for offline use. Once you’ve downloaded the map, you’ll be able to find places and get offline directions. Offline maps help you find and navigate to your destination if your internet connection is absent.
How to Download Google Maps for offline use

(Caption: An animated screenshots showing how to download offline maps)
To download the offline map, go to the Google Maps app on your phone. Make sure you’re connected to the Internet and signed in to Google Maps.
- Open the Google Maps application.
- Tap on your profile picture in the upper-right corner.
- Select offline maps.
- Google often makes recommendations. If your desired area is not on the recommended map, press Select your own area.
- Select the area you want to download.
- You can now pinch-to-zoom in and out, making the download area larger or smaller.
- After making your selection, press the download button in the lower-right corner.
Remember: Transit, cycling, or walking directions are not available offline. Traffic information, alternate routes, and lane guidance are not available in your offline driving directions.

Nice post, a step-by-step guide to take the advantages of maps even when internet is not accessible. I also always prefer to download the maps in advance before moving to the low-network area for hassle-free navigation. Thanks for sharing, it will help lots of local guides.

Offline map is very useful when we don’t get signal. So when we’re going to any rural or hill area, I always try to download offline map before hand. It has helped a lot. Thank you for the reminder @NareshDarji
