Nice challenge - traveling across all Europe by car (from Portugal to Lithuania)

Hello guys!

A great opportunity to see many countries and immerse yourself in country’s culture is traveling by car.
I’ve already done this twice. This time we started our journey from the southwestern point of Portugal - Portimao and arrived at the

eastern point of Europe - the city Klaipeda (Lithuania).

We had a dog and a cat with us, who bravely withstood 40 degree heat, a long journey in the car and on the ferry, and constant changes of appartments.
We left Portugal on June 1 and arrived in Klaipeda on June 9 in the evening.

Our route passed through 6 countries (Portugal, Spain, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany) and we spent the night in 5 cities), in Madrid and Paris we had an additional day of “rest”, which we combined with a cultural program). I divided the road into segments so that I would drive for no more than 8 hours.

What to say about this increadable trip:

  1. It is not a very expensive trip if you plan your housing and travel wisely! Our budget (for two women) was 1500 Euro for everything! We are quite budget travelers.

  2. The approximate distance from Portimao (Portugal) to Kiel (ferry port) is 3000 km! And this is quite difficult mentally and physically for the driver! But ask me if I’d like to do it again and I’ll happily say YES!

3. In Portugal, Spain and France it was necessary to travel on toll roads.

  1. The cheapest gasoline is in Spain (approximately 1.70 euros per liter).

  2. The most unrealistic heat in the center of Spain, Merida (40 C), the coldest was in Germany - about 18C.

  1. All the accommodation we rented

on airbnb (Merida, Madrid, Paris,

Bordo region, Dusseldorf region) was great!

  1. We will remember Merida for the Roman amphitheater, Madrid for the Retiro Park, Paris for the Rolland Garos tennis tournament and the Eiffel Tower, the German Karst for the divine smell of linden trees).

well, young age is quite subjective thing) I am over 40 years old, somebody may think that it is too much for such travelling)

Beautiful post @Yulia_Tikhanycheva !

This is exactly the way I love to travel. @Annaelisa , the age is not important for this. I’m used to drive long distances and you somehow can train to sleep in a car or every day in a different hotel.

@Yulia_Tikhanycheva , fantastic places you have visited! With a dog it is sometimes more difficult, especially when you cannot enter some places.

You missed the beautiful north of Poland

I like the picture with your dogs most.

@TorM thanks! I am happy, that there are people as “crazy” as me))

I booked the appartments on airbnb and agreed with the hosts regarding the animals.Usually they stayed at the appartments alone and slept after a long distance in the car)

This is the second time I travel like that, the first time I left from Lithuania to Portugal in winter but I chose another route)) it was also nice experience, but the second time was easier)

Yes, you are right, I missed Poland) maybe next time))

Saludos Farid

For the case that has difficulty, in reading my answer, in the upper right part of the screen, in the drop-down menu of languages, you can select the language, in which you want to read the post.

@FaridTDF thanks for your comment!

I was in Madrid and Paris twice and I think that two days for those cities are not enough.

Regarding all the rest places it is more than enougth. It may be a journey just to get aquinted with different countries, people, languages and culture.

It is a nice start by the way)

I don’t plan another trip)) If I plan next time, I will for sure go through Austria, Switzernand, North of Italy and south of France and Spain)
