In May I got a golden opportunity to travel to New York to join the first series of 2025 Connect Live which was held in New York by Google. New York is a dream place for almost everyone. I only learnt about this city in class at secondary school: World History, then from the historical event of 9/11 in 2001.
I know there are so many attractions around the city, but I was able to see the World Trade Center and the 9/11 memorial museum, the Liberty Statue and famous Time Square. The 9/11 was the highlight.
World Trade Center building can be seen from the other side of Hudson River while you take a ferry or cruise ship trip to Liberty of Statue. It took about 2.5hours to walk around the Memorial pools, the 9/11 memorial museum and the mall underground.
Everything looks in order, the surrounding is well maintained and people lined up to enter the museum. The two memorial pools by the twin towers engraved names of 2,977 victims who perished in an unfortunate tragedy that day. The surrounding atmosphere is very calm, police and K-9 was seen in the area too.
The tragedy behind this 9/11 museum and the event got stuck in my head for a very long time. Upon coming back, I kept thinking about the tragedy and kept listening and reading to different stories of victims on 9/11. It is painful and coming from the country where similar tragedies occurred, it is like an old wound opening up. History should not be repeated.
