My name is Paul Iguniwei aka the General. I am a Research Scientist and a Lecturer at a prestigious Polytechnic (Kaduna Polytechnic) here in Kaduna State, Northwest Nigeria. I love identifying new places like hangouts, new roads, sprouting communities etc. and geo locate it on the google maps. For me it is beyond just loving to do it…it is about educating my communities and the persons i meet while doing this selfless job. It is about opportunities for the owners of guest houses a local street food joint and a new dusty road showing direction to a new community. I remember the look on the face of the owner of the Independence Guest House at #8 kubi strret by Textile labour house, Trikania in Kaduna, when I told him that I have made his place visible from anywhere on the earth by putting his address and location on the map. People are pleasantly surprised that their small community is now on google map, letting them know that they are now part of the global village via the google map further blows their hearts away. I love it when they are happy knowing they can do business without worries if they can be located-a google map photo with phone numbers solves that.
But what I love most…is the joy I get when I correct the name of a place wrongly named or mischievously miss named. I live in a city that is religiously divided, everything including the names of places can be manipulated! On my honour I go about renaming to the original names of such places for the sake of the Truth and posterity. Even for tourists not to be mislead. I remember a gas station located in the sunglass/kudenda axis listed on the google map as located at Ungwan muazu. Above all I love updating google map with the truth about the correct names of places in my kaduna city. Thank you google map for these rare opportunities.
