Although later some of my reviews became hidden and hence the helpful votes came down. So finally, on 30-April-2024, I received a Congratulatory mail from Google on about 1000 people reacted to my reviews on Google Maps. Here are the details which I posted on 07-May-2024 about
A last minute soft introduction of the idea to see if we can use the reviews stats as described - see if we can use these metrics to get some further insight or help improve in what or how we are doing things as a Local Guide @PrasadVR . It’s great to see that you jumped on board early with this idea.
Well done @Kumaarsantosh , you now possibly have some way to measure the “quality” of your reviews and/or how “popular” the type of places you are reviewing are. Well done on your 715 views per review and almost 2 votes per review. Watch out for the soon to be available final release of the Profile Stats Summary.
How interesting these numbers are @Rednewt74 . While at this early stage I wasn’t setting out or wanting to compare these metrics of one Local Guide with each other, it’s interesting as for roughly the same number of reviews you and @tony_b have, for all intents and purposes you both have the same helpful votes per review but he has twice the views per review! Makes me wonder if there is a big difference in the types of places that each of you are reviewing!
Interesting questions. I haven’t done a count, but my guess is that most of mine are coffee shops and bakeries, and that all others and restaurants are an even mix. Like @tony_b I am not that focused on reviewing.
Time by time I take some screenshot of my profile or of another user’s profile, especially to explain the situation when someone is posting about not visible reviews, and when I do this on mobile they are saved on my screenshots in Google Photos.
here below three screenshots from 2021, (Likes) ant three from March 2022 up to now (Helpful votes).
You can also see the change in the graphic (Android)
Coming back to your stats @Rednewt74 and that of @tony_b for that matter, wouldn’t it be nice if when we change the selected review filter on the reviews (e.g. [Coffee 36] in your case and [Tea 17] in that of @Kumaarsantosh ), as well as displaying the reviews in the selected category, both the helpful votes and views changed accordingly giving the views and votes metric for the selected reviews filter.
Given that the said review filtering mechanism is already in place, this drilling down in the votes and views metrics could very easily be achieved and would provide further insights into how popular the different types of places that we have reviewed are. Then using this same filtering mechanism on the photo count and photo views stats would give us some real bang for our bucks!!! I dream too much
Yes @AdamGT - types of places could make a difference. Note that @Rednewt74 says his are mostly coffee shops, bakeries, and restaurants, while I rarely patronize places to eat out. As my places are not foodie places, people aren’t reading to “like”.
But I think something could also be said about the type of people reading the reviews. Not to judge my own reviews, but it seems like those viewing them are not the type to “like” everything they read. I’ve sometimes scrolled through reviews without clicking “like” on any of them.
I’m open to any alternative analysis, but I don’t intend to put the extra energy into moving up the charts with reviews like I did with photos.
@MarkAuchincloss , I do need to keep some on their toes LOL. Regarding your insightful observation regarding my number of helpful votes, does it indicate that people are interested in my opinion or does it indicate the “quality” of the reviews that I have added to Maps? Like others Mark, to date I haven’t placed much focus on the reviews side of my local guiding but stats like these open up the possibilities. Of course, when people read your reviews they might also see and like your photos.
While I seem to have a relatively high average Helpful vote count no doubt based on the popularity of my opinions as @MarkAuchincloss put it LOL, I’m more interested in the views and it is for this reason that I do believe that the types of places do make a difference. I have to agree with you that the type of people reading the reviews could also be a major influencing factor.
