New on Connect : You Can Now Add GIFs to Your Posts & Replies

Add GIFs to Your Posts & Replies

Great news for all Local Guides :confetti_ball:

Connect has introduced a fun new feature—you can now add Gifs while creating posts or replying to comments.

A well-chosen GIF can make your appreciation, excitement, congratulations, or reactions more expressive and engaging. Whether you’re thanking someone, celebrating an achievement, or simply adding a touch of fun to the conversation, GIFs are now just a tap away.

✨ How to use it:

  1. Start creating a post or reply
  2. Tap the GIF button in the editor toolbar.
  3. Search for your favourite GIF.
  4. Select it and post

How to Add Small Inline GIFs on ConnectConfused Thinking

  1. Insert a GIF into your post or reply.

  2. Switch to Markdown mode.

  3. Find the GIF markdown, which will look similar to:

  4. Change the size values to your preferred dimensions, for example:

    ![GIF](Peachandgoma: Cool Cat Swag|25x30)

  5. The GIF will now appear much smaller and can fit neatly within your sentence, giving it a sticker- or emoji-like appearance. Milk And Mocha Bears: Music & Dance

I’ve already tried it here, and it works smoothly. It’s a nice addition that makes conversations on Connect even more lively and interactive.

Peachandgoma: Cool Cat Swagwe make it smaller by switching to Markdown mode and editing the GIF size manually. .

Nice catch, @Np45

I wonder if using GIFs you did not create yourself is following the guidelines.

Uploading GIFs as an image has always been possible. Maybe only from desktops.

Nice catch @Np45 !

I do hope the community won’t be overzealous in their use of GIFs! For example, a simple Like on a post will do rather than a reply with a ‘thumbs up’ GIF. I’m more of an emoji person as it’s small, inline, more discrete and better for page loading. I know.. GIFs are pretty small so shouldn’t be an issue.

Interestingly, @NunungAfuah 's GIF auto-plays with no ‘Play’ or ‘Pause’ buttons (in the bottom right).

Ich hoffe auch, dass es sich einspielt, im Moment läuft Connect sehr langsam, das Schreibtool ist außer Betrieb und es läuft einfach nicht wie gewohnt. @AdrianLunsong

Thank you, @MortenCopenhagen! That’s a good point. I also hope everyone uses GIFs responsibly and in moderation. This post is mainly to highlight the new built-in GIF feature on Connect. It’ll be interesting to see if any official guidance is shared regarding the use of third-party GIFs. Thanks for your valuable insight.

Thanks, @AdrianLunsong I completely agree. GIFs should be used where they genuinely add value, not for every reply. Used thoughtfully, they can make conversations more engaging without becoming distracting.
