Hi fellow Local Guides, Connect Moderators and Google Moderators ![]()
Namaste from India ![]()
As Local Guides, we all share the passion for improving the Google Maps experience, but what if we could take it one step further?
Imagine if Google Maps didnât just rely on us to contribute randomly but instead proactively guided us to the areas where our contributions are needed the most. Picture this as a gamified quest that enhances both the mapâs quality and the Local Guide experience.
Introducing âMap Missionsâ â a Revolutionary Step Forward!
Hereâs how it could work:
-
A New âMissionsâ Tab: The Google Maps contributions section would have a dedicated âMissionsâ tab where Local Guides can check for personalized tasks in their vicinity.
-
AI-Powered Data Analysis: Leveraging AI, Google Maps would analyze the surrounding data and identify gaps, suggesting missions based on whatâs most urgent or beneficial. A few example missions could be:
-
Data Freshness Mission: âYou recently visited [Mall Name]. We havenât had a photo of the food court in 6 months. Could you snap a picture the next time youâre there?â
-
Accessibility Mission: âThere are several spots along [Street Name] that need accessibility details. Can you check for ramps and accessible restrooms this week?â
-
New Business Mission: âOur satellite imagery shows a new building on [Street Name]. Could you check it out and add it to the map as the first contributor?â
-
Gamification and Rewards: Completing these missions would not only make a significant impact but also earn us extra points and exclusive badges, further incentivizing us to participate and make a difference.
Why This Would Be Impressive:
âMap Missionsâ would completely transform the Local Guides program from a passive, reactive platform into an active, dynamic system for collecting critical data. By directing volunteers to high-priority tasks, it ensures that contributions are making the biggest difference, and in turn, boosts the quality of the maps at a much larger scale. Itâs a truly strategic way of improving the entire mapping ecosystem, and it proves that we are actively thinking about the health of our beloved Google Maps.
Letâs take our contributions to the next level. Together, we can turn Map Missions into a driving force for positive change. ![]()
