New from Google Maps App - All-time photo view

@ErmesT

Thank you so much! I appreciate any and all help or suggestions that I can get to improve myself. I’m not sure what you mean by my doc at home so can you please elaborate so that I don’t make that mistake. I love contributing to Google Maps and would hate to be removed. I don’t play video games and this helps to keep me busy. I had to medically retire a few years ago and miss working so much. This allows me to work on something I love when I feel well enough and not when I don’t. Your help is Very Much Appreciated!!

Oops, @4CharleneWard

Sorry, it was a typo, now fixed. “Your dog at home”.

Our contribution, according to the rules, should clearly represent the business. I know that your doc is photographed while consuming a specific product, but this is just representing the product, not the business itself.

Also the rules are asking to avoid redundancy.

From Community policy :

  • “Take photos that clearly and accurately represent a location …**”
  • "Dark, blurry, and redundant photos will be removed. Users who duplicate photos across locations, … will also be removed

As you replied to my last comment I was typing another comment saying I figured out it was a typo about my dog. I I thought we were allowed to post product pictures as like menu items and pictures of food served at locations. That’s why I thought those would be okay. I do apologize for my mistake but I try to be a fast learner and will try heart don’t break that rule again. So let me clarify a little more. When we are at the veterinarian I take pictures of his reactions to being there and the treatment he gets. Are those allowed? Also businesses that are dog friendly and allow you to bring your pet inside the store are those allowed to be posted as well? Just trying to clarify so I don’t make the mistake again. Thanks again for helping me and clarifying things for me. It really helps to have a mentor to clarify the rules as sometimes you can read directions and interpret them a different way than they are meant.

Thanks for asking, @4CharleneWard

I think that the best way to understand the rules is to think like a user. This will help you to understand if 10 photos of your pet (I live with 3 wonderful cats) at home are representing the place where you bought the product. Probably not.

I wrote a post, times ago, to help to understand the rules even without knowing them: Local Guides in The Mirror - How useful are our contributions?

Regarding the second question, you are welcome to post a photo (one) inside a pet friendly business, especially if you also post the photo of a sign where they say that your pets are welcome. But the business should be clearly represented

Thanks for the heads up on this, @ErmesT - just checked and thankfully I have it as well! I really like that it includes the all-time count, and I think your idea makes sense in terms of hopefully them moving towards a more historical display of this data. I would imagine going back more than a year may be a bit glitchy, but even if it extended to allow three months at max, that would be awesome.

I know Guides love seeing their contributions visualized, so this is a great inclusion within the app.

Yes, @NareshDarji , it is cool, I agree, probably une of the most “visually” interesting update in the recent months

Thanks, @ShafiulB , I think it is just a matter of time

That looks pretty amazing, my dear @ErmesT ! Thanks for giving the heads up for those of us who have not yet received access to this feature. I am looking forward to checking out my stats because I am a true fan of graphics and graphic representation of data sets!!!

You are welcome, @SaifIS

Just let me know when you will have it, so we can track the time for the rollout. Hopefully it will be short

Hehe @SP31

I’ve found an interesting “side effect” in this. As you can see the slope is no linear, on the contrari it is increasing with steps, that reflect the date of when the total views are updated, and sometimes the trend is horizontal for days.

Hope this will help all the Local Guides to understand “when” the number is updated, to give a better feedback to Google when they are complaining
