For a long time, the reporting process was unknown and untraceable.
But now, a new feature has been introduced — a dedicated “Reports” tab under the profile menu at the bottom.
This tab is visible only to the person who submitted the reports, similar to how private contributions are displayed.
When you tap on “Reports,” you can view all the places you’ve reported individually.
Tapping further shows the final outcome — whether the content was removed or not — along with a default message and a link to the relevant policy for review.
This reporting system was actually mentioned long ago by some European users, possibly by @MortenCopenhagen or @ErmesT but I couldn’t find the original post.
Regardless, this is a welcome and much-needed step in the right direction.
For example, I once reported a photo of a truck — possibly from a video game — wrongly featured under a religious place (Gurudwara). However, that report was rejected.
Hi friend @Trail_blazer, Thanks for sharing this update. This is the first time I’ve seen this feature after reading your post. Yes, it’s a helpful change. I can see my reports now.
Thankyou @Trail_blazer took me a while to actually find it. I think this is a great idea but like you, I will report wrong contributions. I only had 2 and both were rejected. One from a week ago and one from 4 months ago. So I’m guessing nothing happened with all the other reports I suggested???
Can’t say much Terry. The updates seem from the time feature rolled in. I can’t say its robust and working great but at least it’s trackable now. The feature maybe 100% AI based, trained on specific content as per policies and guidelines because there can be massive reporting every day.
I will see if there anything else related to it.
Thanks @new.user for highlighting it. Well the feature is out almost after 5 months in India. I wonder if it’s available worldwide right now or still limited to specific regions.
Thanks for pointing this out. I just checked my account and I’m seeing it. Like @TerryPG, though, only a few reports are listed. I’ll be sure to check it more often as I report things to see if it’s picking certain reports up and not displaying others.
Thanks for pointing this up @Trail_blazer, but I can’t see it in my phone. Am I looking the wrong place, or should I try again on computer when I get back home?
@Trail_blazer thanks for highlighting this. Like you I do try to get irrelevant & damaging content removed from Google Maps with mixed results.
The good thing is the system is more transparent so you can easily see the progress of your reports on a case by case basis. The submit an appeal tab is also usually an option in case you are unsuccessful the first time around.
UK here and I only see 8 months of reported Reviews. I report a lot of incorrect media and no one knows if it is worth it. But that’s really great that you got confirmation… one way or another. it’s better than no feedback cause your sat there wondering if you are wasting all your time.
@JustJake@Steve_UK
It seems that only the reports on which some action (content removed or not removed) has been taken are reflected. Pending reports do not appear to be reflected, and I can’t say since when they have been accumulating and displaying these results.
Thanks for this info @Trail_blazer .. I don’t see that info at the moment. Can someone verify if they can still see it even if they have made 0 reports? I have reported in the past but not paid any attention to see if any action has been taken or not.
Thanks @AdrianLunsong looks like the feature is still not rolled out worldwide. Even if you report something it takes days and weeks to see some action under reports section. My earliest notification was from 2 weeks ago while that could have been reported a almost 3 or 4 weeks ago so there is significant time gap in between.
