New "Answers" Tab on Google Maps

WilfriedB wrote:I only saw the name of the place, but not individual response. So, it seems, you can only delete all responses you gave to that place …?

@WilfriedB There is a “Edit your review” button is available at the end your review.

@PrasadVR I know, I can edit my reviews. But I meant the new answers tab. I can see neither the individual questions nor my responses and it seems to me, when I klick Delete, it will delete all my responses for that place.

Well spotted, @PrasadVR , and really wanted to better manage our answers in Google Maps, instead to pass for the complicate process that we had till two days ago. :+1:

@WilfriedB Yes, individual questions and answers created on mobile cannot be edited on desktop. As discussed, ‘Edit your review’ button is available for editing our review. Thanks for sharing your views.

@PrasadVR @WilfriedB I’m seeing it this morning on my work laptop. No sliding of the bar needed. Strange it wasn’t visible last night on the home one, as that has a larger screen. Possibly a gradual roll out feature.

Thank you @tony_b for checking and confirming :+1: . Lets see how far it is helpful.

Hello @WilfriedB @PrasadVR @ErmesT

Taking another look at this now that I have it, I’m not sure what is the intended use. At the top it says, “Here are the quick answers you’ve posted”, but I just see a list of places - no list of answers.

I agree @tony_b , for now, I cannot see much usage, unless it will be extended to really show the quick answers we did post in detail and allow to change or delete. That’s what I meant above.

My feeling, @WilfriedB , @tony_b , @PrasadVR , is that Google is trying to find a solution of the deletion of the answers.

Let me explain. I start from the principle that a user should be able to delete only one part of his contributions: photos and reviews. We cannot delete “edits” because once an edit is accepted it is possible to revert it. Answers were deleted by deleting the “web History”. This caused a lot of issues and a lot of Local Guides lost a lot of points because they decided to delete the History. Long time ago Google Maps promised a solution for this issue, and this is probably the reason of this change. It doesn’t mean that we have to delete them, but I hope this will avoid us to delete them inadvertently. I’m tagging @DeniGu for a confirmation

Probably (and hopefully) work in progress @ErmesT , @PrasadVR and @tony_b . That’s why we did not see any kind of announcement from Google yet.

Thank you, @ErmesT ,for bringing this matter to DeniGu’s attention. Hopefully, we’ll get an answer soon.

@WilfriedB It looks that could be the reason.

I just checked my list of answers on my desktop. These are not places where I have answered any questions for. Could it be places where they want me to answer a question? Probably not, as there are no questions to reply to under these places.

This is odd!

I agree it is “odd” @MortenCopenhagen !

In my case, I am quite sure, those were places, I received questions for. But you said “there are no questions to reply to under these places”, I understood it refers to the Yes/No questions randomly in your notifications or under “Contribute”->“Respond to Yes/No-questions”->Start ? …

Just checking for a place, I respond right now, but never did before.

And indeed, those two places came up in real time! So, in case I wanted to delete all responses for one of those two places, it would be possible now. But I need to remember what exactly was asked. But in case, I responded to the wrong place (did happen before!), I could easily delete now.

@MortenCopenhagen

As Google Maps says, these are places where we posted quick answers on them.

@WilfriedB

To re-check most of the individual questions and change the answer, we can go to the About tab of any place and then select Edit features.

Thank for the hint @Amiran !

Not sure, though. While I see certain attributes withe yes/no/? of the place, which can be edited in the mobile app, but they are not the same, I did respond to earlier. :disappointed_relieved:

Sorry, @Amiran

I’m 99.5 % sure that I never answered any yes/no or user questions about the places on my Answers list. But I certainly do recognize the places. Those are all places that I edited recently.

So I believe recently edited can put a place on the list.

But still it is a mystery to me what the purpose of the list is. Maybe I need to use the app to see some questions from users or Google Maps. But then why show me the list on the Desktop?

Cheers

Morten

@PrasadVR My list consists mostly of the ‘Can you confirm?’ questions that I respond to.

These questions are funny to me since I’m often editing in places that are not in my area. Most of my answers are ‘I don’t know.’ I treat them as a type of CAPTCHA question to make sure I’m human when making large numbers of edits. I’m likely wrong in that assumption, but I don’t want to give bad info and can’t leave an easy question unanswered!

Perhaps these would be best answered by Locals who could, say, Check The Facts! :joy:

Tagging @MortenCopenhagen @WilfriedB @Amiran @ErmesT to add to the conversation. Should we maybe, possibly, perhaps bring back Fact Checking?
