My daughter manages the Burnet Park Campground. This is a campground owned by Girl Guides Victoria and is available to be hired by the public for events or for general camping. My daughter has asked me to take photos to be added to Google Maps to help raise the profile of the location. I have taken the photos but there is no option to add media when viewing the location on Google Maps. How can I add the photos to Google Maps for this location? One option is to attempt to claim it if you have the authority to do so. And based on your description it could be that your daughter as manager could claim the ownership but it would be best that this be done by the Girl Guides if they do. This should be the case for any legitimate ‘pinned place’ on the map.

Thank you for your reply. So just to clarify, are you saying it is not possible to add photos to a location that is already marked in Google Maps until the location has been claimed by someone?
No not necessarily but Google is incredibly inconsistent with its said rules (breaks them all the time) so this is simply an additional strategy that would not only likely work but also allows the location to be properly promoted and managed.
If a true location that is managed by someone is not claimed (verified) then the location is at risk of being claimed by someone else who does not have true interest and responsibility for the said location.
Imagine if you had a business on the map and you didn’t claim it and then one of your competitors claimed it and essentially tanked your business in terms of google search results.
This also applies to all other maps related and directory listings related data online. Now that we live in an online digital age when it comes to search, it becomes every business or organisation’s responsibility to control it. Or… its reputation and data could be at stake of misuse.

This pin can not be claimed because it is not a normal Point of Interest but a geographical feature on the map. That is also why we can not add photos and reviews to this place.

To move forward I see two possible solutions.
You can seek help with this in the Maps support forum.
Hit the Community tab at the top and make a post. You need to explain that you would like this place converted into a pin that can be claimed, hold photos and reviews. Make sure the include the Maps link.
If not successful your only option will be to create a new business pin.
I think it is best to try option 1 first.

@MortenCopenhagen Good idea about the conversion of the pin. I didn’t even suggest that but see your point. I tend not to go down that path. if a pin relates to an organisation that should rightfully control data relating to the point on the map. Simply put, imagine if that place gets sold to someone else and they change the name or place use. Then what?
Where your suggestion makes perfect sense is for things that are part of the landscape permanently, like a lookout point, a river, a boat launch that’s on government (public) land, etc.
I’ve never tried ‘converting’ such a point for clients in the past, but I have created a new listing if it was not claimable .
But I do appreciate the input and see why you would suggest it. Well done!
