Need Help: Correction for a Public Pond Name & Address "Not Accepted"

Hi everyone,

I need some assistance from the community moderators regarding a beautiful public spot in my neighborhood that I recently tried to update on Google Maps.

It is a scenic public pond surrounded by old trees located in Bangladesh. Local people love visiting this place, which motivated me to add it to the map so others could discover its beauty. However, during the initial creation, a colloquial spelling error was made, and the address format needed a slight adjustment.

When I tried to correct these details, my edits were marked as “Not accepted.” I have attached a screenshot of the rejection from my contribution history (Screenshot_20260606-081508.png) for reference.

Here are the details of the changes I am trying to make:

â€ĸ Current Name on Map: āĻĢāĻžāωāĻ—āĻžāύ āĻŽāĻ§ā§āϝāĻĒāĻžā§œāĻž āĻĒ⧁āϏāϕ⧁āύāĻŋ āĻĒāĻžā§œ
â€ĸ Correct Name (Standard Bengali): āĻĢāĻžāωāĻ—āĻžāύ āĻŽāĻ§ā§āϝāĻĒāĻžāĻĄāĻŧāĻž āĻĒ⧁āϕ⧁āϰ
â€ĸ Correct Address: 3FGG+76X Atlora, Bangladesh

Since this is a natural public landmark and not a commercial business, there is no official website or business registration to link as proof. However, it is an authentic and physically verifiable location.

Could a moderator or experienced Local Guide please review this and help me get these correct details approved?

Thank you for your time and support!

That’s because you are trying to edit a geographical area and not a Point of interest as explained in

Searching here on Connect can often lead you to find answers more quickly.

Exactly! These restrictions are necessary to maintain the trustworthiness of Google Maps and prevent malicious edits. It definitely protects the platform’s integrity.

However, when our edits are “Rejected,” we rarely get a clear reason why. It would be incredibly helpful if Google provided a specific tag or note explaining the mistake. If we can’t see what we did wrong, it’s hard to learn from it and contribute better next time.

Hi once more, @realsikto

Of course we cannot edit/approve if for you, but we can tell you more about how to have it corrected.
First of all let clarify a few things, to better understand the subject of the conversation.
I agree with @MortenCopenhagen (thanks for sharing my post) that a natural feature, like a lake, a river, a mountain peak, cannot be edited by us. That’s why, in that type of places, Google Maps do not provvide any button to suggest an edit. The simple fact that the button is available means that the place is not categorized as a “natural feature”, but as a POI.
How is the place categorized?
Can you kindly provide a link in Google Maps to the location? A simple link can save time for searching, and with a direct search in Google Maps I can’t find any exactly corresponding name.
In any case the plus code provided by you is sending us here.
In there I can find what is categorized as a Touristic Attraction: āĻĢāĻžāωāĻ—āĻžāύ āĻŽāĻ§ā§āϝāĻĒāĻžāĻĄāĻŧāĻž āĻĒ⧁āϏāϕ⧁āύāĻŋ āĻĒāĻžāϰ. Is this the place you are trying to modify?

As you can see, on my view the name of the place is a bit different from yours. Why? For the simple reason that someone added that name as the name “In English”

Of course this depends of the language settings of your device. But if you want to change a name in “Standard Bengali” first of all make sure that your setting for the language in Maps is Standard Bengali, not English!

Then, let ma add: Never make two edits in a single shot. If one of the parts of the edit isn’t verified, the whole edit will be rejected.

In addition, the second part of your edit (the address) is totally useless. What defines a Plus Code is the sequence of 4+3 Letter and Numbers. The final part is added by Maps on visualization to indicate area / country, but it’s not used to define the address. So the correct address is already 3FGG+76X. For more details you can read (till the end): Find & share a location using Plus Codes - Computer - Google Maps Help, where this part is clearly specified.

Let me add a note about your last reply

A while back I heard a burglar say, “It would be incredibly helpful if the homeowner put a sign on the door that said ‘The spare keys are hidden under the third step.’ We could save a lot of time and avoid breaking the door.”

So, how could I disagree with you? Because you’re an honest person, albeit inexperienced. Experience that @MortenCopenhagen , for example, has gained over more than 10 years of editing, learning from his mistakes.
However, not everyone is honest, and there are often attempts to create fraudulent POIs, which can deceive people. This is one of the reasons why some categories are protected by edits, approval of an edit requires verification, and Google doesn’t tell you where the keys to the door are.

Hi @ErmesT,

Thank you so much for the detailed explanation and the clear advice! I now understand that making multiple edits at once (name and address) was the main reason behind the rejection, and that changing the Plus Code format was unnecessary.

To clarify, I recently submitted a new single edit for the name correction (āĻĢāĻžāωāĻ—āĻžāύ āĻŽāĻ§ā§āϝāĻĒāĻžāĻĄāĻŧāĻž āĻĒ⧁āϕ⧁āϰ) a few days ago, following the correct approach. Currently, this edit status is showing as “Pending”.

As requested, here is the direct Google Maps link to the location for your reference:

I have also made sure my device language is set to Standard Bengali. I will wait patiently for the system to process this pending name update. Your insights on how the Maps algorithm works were incredibly helpful for an inexperienced contributor like me!

Best regards,
Sikto

Hi @realsikto, I completely understand your frustration! :handshake: As someone who frequently maps rural areas and villages, I face these ‘Not Accepted’ edits quite often.

Here are two tricks that usually work for me:

Visual Proof: Before making the edit, try uploading a clear, geo-tagged photo of the pond (or a 360-degree Photo Sphere if possible) to that location. Google’s AI usually approves edits faster if there is recent visual proof.

Step-by-Step: Don’t edit the name and address at the same time. Try submitting just the name first. Once that is accepted, edit the address.

Don’t give up! Sometimes the system just takes a little extra time. Good luck! :+1:
