Need advice: My edits for public schools in Kot Iqbal are always rejected

Hello everyone,

I would appreciate some guidance regarding an issue I have been facing with Google Maps.

I have submitted several edits for public schools in Kot Iqbal, Punjab, Pakistan, including:

  • Adding Government Girls High School, Kot Iqbal.

  • Correcting the name of Gov Boys School Kot Iqbal to Government Elementary School, Kot Iqbal, which is the official name used locally.

Unfortunately, every time I submit these edits, they are rejected, even though these are genuine government schools serving the local community.

I have original photos of the schools and can provide additional evidence if needed.

Could experienced Local Guides please advise:

  • Why might these edits be rejected repeatedly?

  • What type of evidence gives the best chance of approval?

  • Is there a better way to submit edits for government schools?

I would be grateful for any advice. My goal is simply to improve the accuracy of Google Maps for my community.

Thank you.

Hello @MR.NMM,

Please note that from time to time, your edits may not be applied to prevent abuse.

Additionally, I have changed the category and tags of your topic to better represent what you are sharing.

Hi @MR.NMM !
It’s not a problem with your account: for certain places of public interest and with restrictions (schools, public safety buildings, military sites or depots), it’s not possible to edit information or post new photos and reviews.

These are special sites for which, at this time, contributions are no longer possible due to security and privacy concerns.

I then took a look at your Maps profile and I recommend you clean up (delete) many duplicate photos which, in addition to not presenting anything new beyond the first photo published, put you at risk of seeing your Local Guide profile deleted: first of all, you posted practically 4 identical photos here: Jamaah Muhammade Masjid

One piece of advice I can give you is to focus on quality rather than quantity: two or three photos for each activity or location that can highlight different aspects or details!

Bye,

David

Thank you very much,@davidhyno**,** for taking the time to review my profile and explain this.

I wasn’t aware that contributions for certain public institutions, such as schools, may be restricted because of security and privacy policies. That explains why my edits were being rejected.

Thank you also for pointing out the duplicate photos. I have already reviewed the Jamaah Muhammade Masjid listing and deleted two of the similar photos. I truly appreciate your advice about focusing on quality rather than quantity, and I will follow this approach in all my future contributions.

If you happen to notice any other duplicate photos or any mistakes in my Google Maps contributions, I would be grateful if you could let me know. As I’m getting back into contributing after several years, I’m always happy to learn from experienced Local Guides and improve the quality of my contributions.

Thank you once again for your valuable guidance and support.

Thank you, @MoniDi, for your response and for updating the category and tags of my topic.

I appreciate your clarification that some edits may not be applied as part of Google’s measures to prevent abuse. That helps me better understand why certain edits may be rejected.

I’m grateful for all the guidance I’ve received from you and the experienced Local Guides. Based on your advice, I have already reviewed my contributions, removed duplicate photos, and will continue focusing on making high-quality, original contributions that follow the Google Maps guidelines.

Thank you again for your time and support.

Thank you, @MoniDi, @davidhyno,@ErmesT, and everyone else for your valuable guidance and for taking the time to review my issue.

I completely understand that Google Maps may restrict edits to certain educational institutions for security and privacy reasons, and I appreciate the explanation.

To better explain my situation, I have attached three images:

1. Satellite View
The first image shows the locations of the two separate school campuses in Kot Iqbal.

  • Red outline: Government Girls High School, Kot Iqbal

  • Green outline: Government Elementary School, Kot Iqbal (currently listed on Google Maps as “Gov Boys School Kot Iqbal”)

2. Government Girls High School
The second image is my original photograph of the school’s entrance gate, where the official name “Government Girls High School, Kot Iqbal” is clearly displayed.

3. Government Elementary School
The third image is my original photograph of the entrance gate, where the official name “Government Elementary School, Kot Iqbal” is clearly displayed. However, Google Maps currently shows this school as “Gov Boys School Kot Iqbal.”

My intention is not to bypass Google’s review process or any restrictions. I simply want Google Maps to reflect the official names of these public schools so that students, parents, visitors, and the local community can find accurate information.

Could you please advise whether there is an appropriate process for correcting the names of restricted educational institutions when original photographs and official school signage are available?

I truly appreciate all of your guidance. Thanks to your advice, I have already reviewed my Google Maps profile, removed duplicate photos, and will continue focusing on high-quality, original contributions that follow Google Maps policies.

Thank you once again for your time and support.
