Nature, Culture & Memories - My Black Sea Road Trip

Hello Local Guides Family,
Today I want to share a wonderful journey, which I experienced recently.
On the morning of April 30th, I set off from
Çorum, driven by a longing to complete an
unfinished Black Sea route. After nearly 10 hours of travel, I arrived in the town of
Pazar. Although I had visited the Black Sea
region before, this time I returned with a fresh perspective and a much richer itinerary. After
picking up my rental car in Pazar, I headed towards Rize city center.
There, I met up with my girlfriend, and we continued on our pre-planned route toward
Trabzon. Our first destination was
Uzungöl. Along the way, nature greeted us with
all its vibrant shades. We took a short break by the lake. The scenery was magnificent; however,
excessive construction and the tourist crowds had slightly dimmed its natural charm. Still, from
the viewing hill, Uzungöl’s grandeur was truly dazzling.

Our next stop was Cazılar Creek. The trails
winding through the lush greenery looked like natural paintings. We ended the day with a
peaceful hike immersed in nature. One particularly fascinating part was the creatively built witch
figures, which stood out as a unique cultural twist in the Black
Sea
setting.

The next morning greeted us with rain, so we decided to explore the historical sites in Trabzon
city center. We first visited the İskenderpaşa Mosque, followed by the City
Museum
.

The museum held a rich collection
that showcased Trabzon’s culture, history, and lifestyle from A to Z. Despite the rain, we
continued walking and visited the History Museum and the House of Sultan Suleiman (Kanuni
Evi).

We then made our way to the Trabzon
Aquarium
. It was a captivating experience with
chameleons, exotic fish, and reptiles, offering us a fresh perspective on nature.

One of the highlights I had been eagerly waiting for was the Sumela
Monastery
. Though the parking fees were a bit
high, the grandeur of the monastery made it all worth it. The frescoes, though worn by time,
were still awe-inspiring.
