From September 12 to 18, the “Hōjō-ya,” one of Fukuoka City’s three major festivals, was held.
Although it is generally known as “Hōjō-e,” in Fukuoka it is called “Hōjō-ya.”
It is a festival that “cherishes all life, discourages killing, and gives thanks for the autumn harvest.”
While the religion and atmosphere are different, I hope you can think of it as something similar to Thanksgiving.
The Main Hall of Hakozaki Shrine will be open to the public for a limited time.
It houses many cultural properties.
Here, we’ll introduce some of them.
Sen no Rikyu’s Offering Stone Lantern
Nationally Designated Important Cultural Property
This piece, created in 1350, was presented by Sen no Rikyū during a tea ceremony held in this area in 1587.
Nan Kaijin’s Cannon
Designated Cultural Property of Fukuoka City
A bronze cannon cast in 1689 under the supervision of the Belgian Ferdinand Verbiest (Chinese name: Nan Kaijin)
It is unclear why it was brought to Fukuoka from the Qing Dynasty.
You can also see a wide variety of exhibits and other items packed into every available space.
Chanpon
This is not a food item, but a glass toy that makes a soft popping sound.
It’s called “chanpon” in Hakata because when you gently blow into the straw-like part, it makes a “chanpon” sound.
Each one is handmade.
Currently, there are no longer any artisans producing them.
I was able to spend a very meaningful time learning about the local history right in my own neighborhood during this precious opportunity.
9月12日から18日まで、福岡市三大祭りのうちの1つ「放生会」が開催されました。
一般的に「ほうじょうえ」と言われますが、福岡では「ほうじょうや」と呼びます。
「万物の生命を慈しみ、殺生を戒め、秋の実りに感謝する」お祭りです。
期間限定で筥崎宮本殿が一般開放されます。
その中には文化財がたくさんあります。
今回はその一部を紹介します。
千利休奉納石燈籠
国指定重要文化財
1350年に作成されたものを1587年にこのエリアで行われた茶会の際に千利休が奉納したものです
南懐仁の大砲
福岡市の指定文化財
1689年 ベルギー人フェルディナンド・フェルビースト（中国名：南懐仁）の製作指導によって作られた青銅製の大砲
清朝からなぜ福岡に渡ったのかは不明です。
また様々な展示品などが所狭しと見ることが出来ます。
ちゃんぽん
食べ物ではなくガラス製のビードロです。
ストロー状のところから優しく息を吹くと「ちゃんぽん」という音がしたから
博多では「ちゃんぽん」と呼ばれています。
1つ1つ手作り。
現在は製造する職人が途絶えています。
身近なところにある地元の歴史を知る貴重な時期に入れてとても有意義な時間を過ごせました。
