Napa at Hindu Gymkhana - The First Performing Arts School Of Karachi

Hello, Local Guides Family,

We all must have seen movies and dramas on the TV screen, have you ever watched the live theater?

By the way, this world is a beautiful theater in which every person is playing his role. It has been going on like this for centuries. Everyone is an actor here but no one admits it, all of us must have told a lie at once in his/her life. I also told a lie in my childhood which I proved true along with the whole acting in such a way that no one found out till today.

"I stole a spoon from a house. An aunt used to feed her baby with this spoon every day. I liked that spoon very much because there were no spoons in our house. So one day I saw an opportunity and stole that spoon and I hid it in the belt of my pants. On reaching my house, I climbed onto the wall of the house and put the spoon there on the top of the wall.

After waiting for some time, my mother came there, I got up and started walking on the wall, there was a spoon on that side. In those days, crows used to fly away carrying food utensils, which I used as my support. Mom said, give me that I have to ask neighbors, maybe it belongs to one of them. She started asking everyone whose it is. But they said it was not ours. Finally, mother said, I don’t know whose it is, then it was my turn to say, mother, I don’t know crow must have brought it from far away, because now its owner is not found, so now this spoon is mine because I got it from lying on the wall. That’s how I succeeded in this play.

That spoon is still with my mother among my toys. " Let me clarify that it was my first and last rob ray ".

So it was a childhood game but today we will talk about the real game i.e. theater, as we all know that theater has been a special part of public entertainment for centuries, whether it is the Greece theater or the modern theater of the present age. has always created its own unique identity which cannot be erased by cinema or TV channels.

National Academy Of Performing Arts in Hindu Gymkhana Karachi:

Karachi also has a theater school, which was the first ever performing arts academy, which was founded in 2005 in the almost 100 years old Hindu Gymkhana Building Karachi by respectable teacher Mr. Zia Mohiuddin.

Zia Mohiuddin is a Pakistani British actor, director, and producer who has worked in theater, TV, and cinema ( Hollywood Movie The Lawrence Of Arabia fame) in Pakistan and the UK.

In 2005, when Sir Zia Muhyiddin inaugurated the National Academy of Performing Arts, that time when theater in Pakistan was taking its last breath. But he gave new life to theater art.

Here are my Google Maps reviews about National Academy of Performing Arts &

Hindu Gymkhana Karachi on my Google Maps profile.

Here I want to share some interesting facts about Hindu Gymkhana Building:

  • The Hindu Gymkhana is a British-era building situated in District South of Karachi Pakistan was established by Seth Ramgopal Gourdhanandh Mohatta and the Hindu community in 1925 on a plot of 47,000 square yards.

  • The Hindu Gymkhana was the first public building in Karachi to adopt the Mughal architectural style.

  • It was established in 1925 by Karachi’s Hindus as an exclusive club for their community activities.

  • The building consists primarily of a hall and some smaller rooms used for administrative purposes.

  • The octagonal corner towers rimming the projecting central jharokhas are crowned with Chatri, accentuating the significance of the Rajasthani Style of Palaces. The cupolas of the Chatris are reinforced concrete and the walls are bound in Gizri stone. Some of the carved elements are of Jodhpur stone.

(Facts taken from the Internet)

After the pandemic, now that theater life has started again, I have also done a three-month short course in acting.

When I entered the world of real theater, I realized that acting here is very difficult. The childhood drama was also written by myself and directed by myself, but in this theater, an actor/actress has to be completely separated, a completely new life, Which has nothing to do with your personal life. But you have to play your role as your own so that the audience feels the reality of the act, if you see even the slightest falsehood, you cannot be a successful actor.

To be honest, watching theater is more fun than doing theater, but it is also true that a theater actor is trained to do theater in such a way that you become a new person in yourself, the way you speak. Your ability to think and the way you walk can also be changed by theater teachers.

I am happy that I have been a small part of this world, at least I got a small chance to understand this field from the inside.

Accessibility:

Now let’s know about a very important part of this article, and it’s about :wheelchair: Accessibility.

Unfortunately, Napa & the whole building are not :no_entry: :wheelchair: Accessibility-friendly.

I have requested the CEO of the National Academy of Performing Arts Mr. Junaid Zuberi to make the school Wheelchair accessible and make a walking track with Accessible Tactile Tiles for visually impaired people as the theater hall of the performing arts academy is not yet accessibility-friendly. And two visually impaired people also come here, one of them is a music teacher and the other is a music student. So whenever they want to move to any other room of the building they always need assistance from another person.

The CEO of Napa has assured us that they will work on the matter as soon as possible.

If we succeed in this task, then I will count myself among those who have done something good for the people of this world.

I need all your prayers so that we will get success in this mission of :wheelchair: Accessibility in Napa Building Karachi.

A traveler, blogger, Morchang player, and now a theatre artist - you are the Rennaisance Woman of Pakistan @Shaheen_Gul

The post is very nicely articulated and the photo collages are impressive.

I too must admit to having picked up a cigarette lighter from my relative’s house not knowing what it was meant for since I had never seen anyone using it.

Moreover, it was a used one and the fuel was exhausted so I never come to know about its use until several years later - but I find it funny recollecting that incident today after several decades

The first photo is captivating with the Chhatris on the top and the Mihrabs beneath.

The multi-colored Ghagra in the Morchang photo looks enchanting as well.

Top post @Shaheen_Gul you didn’t leave any small detail about Napa and Hindu Gymkhana in your post. I never visited there, but after your post we should plan something there, like a Local Guides meet up as we did in frere hall in 2020. So we all can capture the beauty of this piece of art in our cameras together.

Keep going Shaheen

Hello dear friend @Shaheen_Gul ,

Firstly, sorry for being a bit late to respond… I was busy in our India LGs logo printed T Shirt Project - almost around 180 T Shirts getting distributed throughout India - I expect your prayers for the success of mission. (of course, I’m ably supported by our senior LGs @AmbrishVarshney and @NareshDarji ). Of course, our respected @KashifMisidia Ji is also well aware of this project.

Let us come to your marvelous post… Dear Shaheen, sincerely lack words to express my feelings after reading your post.

Simply beautiful… Beautiful… Beautiful!

Starting with your Stealing Story… You took us with you, in every word!

I know I don’t have your writing talents… Still, I shall try with my STEALING CONFESSION in a post shortly.

Appreciate your TALENTS and efforts.

Congratulations…

Also, Napa at Hindu Gymkhana…

Well presented… Really nice…

All photos are very appealing…

By the way, I can see a guitar behind your photo (Morchang playing), a few drums, etc. Do you play these too?

(humbly, I was a Sitarist and Tabalist - once upon a time).

Then, our prayers for the success of your meetup with the CEO of the NAPA - Almighty bless - Insha Allah, it will happen - we shall wait to hear about that.

Lastly, your short & sweet video - excellent - I enjoyed it - what I enjoyed, I have commented in the YouTube.

Best wishes for all success.

Prayerfully yours…

:handshake:
