Nakhoda Masjid, Kolkata

The auspicious month of Ramadan has recently started, and it has excited travel lovers, place explorers, food lovers, etc. A place you must visit in Kolkata during Ramadan is Zakaria Street, where the historical Nakhoda Masjid is situated at the beginning of this street. I will talk about Zakaria Street in detail in the next post.

So, Nakhoda Masjid has a rich historical significance. It is one of the biggest mosques in India and the biggest mosque in the Eastern part of India as well as West Bengal. It was opened in 1926, and 10,000 people can offer prayers here.

It was a great experience to visit here. I got inner peace in this mosque, and the people here are very helpful. I visited here in the afternoon time when people started gathering here and they started doing Namaz.

It is amazing to see the coordination during the prayer. On that day the cricket match was being played so I saw people praying for team India and at last all their prayers were successful as team India get into finals.

After the prayer, people started going outside, but again came for the Iftar in the evening. Overall, it was a great experience. If you live in Kolkata, you should visit here, especially during this time. A wheelchair is accessible to this mosque.

Great article, @Shaunak. Last year, I had the opportunity to visit the famous Zakaria Street food trail on the month of Ramadan, next to the Nakhoda Masjid on Rabindra Sarani. Here are some snaps:-
