This should be one of the wonders of the world really. Have you ever heard of any River whose source is from root of a tree? I was as bewildered as yourselves, but I was there and I saw it personally !!! Seeing the trickles of water from the root of a tree that flows out to form the River Ethiope
There is something very soothing and cool about the place as you step in. I suppose that’s derived from the shade of the huge Silk Cotton tree sitting so majestically there and spreading out her branches high and tall. The eerie silence shout out so loudly at you. You can hardly hear anything else aside the few birds that sing around and the gentle cool flow of the river.
Last weekend I was in the south East of Nigeria in Delta state on official duties. After my assignment, I decided to have some fun and explore as a local guide; That brought me to the Source of [River Ethiope ](http://River Ethiope https://maps.app.goo.gl/FwAchBxPdVkBhGUP7). The atmosphere there is quite magical and inviting. You probably have to take the journey down,to feel what I felt. Oh the coolness of the river itself, a different story entirely. No wonder there is a little shrine attached and some worshippers around the place. It is even said to posses some divine or supernatural healing powers. According to sources from the local indigenous people, the tree itself is a couple of centuries old. It’s a sight to behold, so huge, so tall and spread out.
At 176km, the river is said to be not only the first, but the deepest inland water ways in Africa. Although the river itself is not what thrilled me but the Source. Just a few holes at the foot of the tree, some few trickles everyday all the time, and [River Ethiope ](http://River Ethiope https://maps.app.goo.gl/FwAchBxPdVkBhGUP7)was formed.
It’s not a very developed site really. We paid about 1$ (#400 naira) each to get in. Mind you, aside a few worshippers and caretakers, there are no tour guides, no accessibility features no real modern facilities. Nevertheless it’s such a simple and nice place to visit. It’s one of those place to connect with nature if you like nature. I do like nature, so I enjoyed my time in the place. Hope you like the place and post.
Cheers
