#MyMemories - Photo Post (11) - Photos of Lion Tailed Macaque - TravellerG

Dear Friends,

Here are a few photos from my (zoo) collection and in this series, I would like to introduce one animal in every post - in this post, let us discuss Lion Tailed Macaques.

Have you ever captured any photos of Lion Tailed Macaque? Can you give me company by publishing your shots?

Lion-tailed Macaque or Lion-tailed Monkey

Lion-tailed macaques or lion-tailed monkeys are native to the Indian subcontinent. They are found in the Sahyadris (western ghats). Their scientific name is Macaca silenus, belong to the Cercopithecidae family and genus is Macaca.

They have grey in colour fur on their face like a beard and their tails look like a lion’s tails. These biological features help them to be differentiated from other species of monkeys.

But like any other monkey, this monkey also has a cheek pouch which is used to store food to access whenever required.

A group of 4 or more male and female monkeys live and search for their food together. Male monkeys are bigger than female monkeys, they weigh 5-10 kgs and 2-6 kgs respectively.

The lion-tailed macaques are endangered and only less than 3000 live in the world. They are classified as the most endangered species and placed in the Red List of Threatened species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.

As an LG Photographer, I have spotted Lion Tailed Macaques in Trivandrum Zoo Here and Valdalur Zoo (Arignar Anna Zoological Park) Here.

Beautiful photos as what @Sophia_Cambodia said.

Are they nocturnal ?

Happy that you enjoyed the post, my dear friend @BudiFXW

They are really communal (Photo No: 4)

They are diurnal (active during the day)

Thanks for your valuable questions.

Hope these questions will be helpful to our @Sophia_Cambodia too… right?

Thanks

Tu sabes @TravellerG que al ver las fotos 3, 4, 6 y 7 lo confundí con el mono babuino, acabo de googlearlo, es parecido, pero tiene varias diferencias.

Due to the care taken by the government, the ‘copies are increasing’ and it is believed that by 2030 there will be more animals active…

Thanks for your company, dear @CAAG1959
