#MyMemories - Photo Post - Photos of Nilgai - TravellerG

Dear Friends,

Here are a few photos from my (zoo) collection and in this series, I would like to introduce one animal in every post - in this post, let us discuss Nilgai.

Have you ever captured any photos of Nilgai? Can you give me company by publishing your shots?

The Nilgai/ The Blue Cow

The nilgai (Bluebuck or Blue cow) is the biggest antelope in Asia. It is majorly found in the Northern Indian subcontinent. It belongs to the Bovidae family and its genus is Boselaphus. (The scientific name - Boselaphus tragocamelus).

Nilgai is the Hindusthani name of the animal and the word means Blue Cow. In India, Hindus consider it as a holy animal like the cow. It grows as much as 5 feet and 300 kg of weight which is even bigger than a cow that weighs approximately 210 kg. The Nilgai is the only antelope among the four antelopes in India that is extensively found.

Male has Bluish-Grey colour, while females have Tawny colour.

As an LG Photographer, I have spotted Nilgai in Mysore Zoo Here.
