At first glance, this may not seem like an ideal place for a camping trip. An arid, dusty botanic gardens, 4 1/2 hours due west of Brisbane, no shops, internet, phone, only tank or dam water, dirt road access, basically must bring everything. Yet Myall Park ticks all of our favourite camping area boxes.

First, full disclosure, we use a tent (OzTent RV5), no pets, children or grand children and we are OK with basic toilet and shower arrangements.
Myall Park camp site.
The camp sites are generous, with power included in the fees. If camping you will require a ground sheet as sites are dusty and rocky. The caretaker visits in the morning and evening to collect fees.
Botanic Gardens walks
But the real attraction is the heritage listed Myall Park gardens, and wild life. During the 1940s David Gordon established the garden devoted to growing Australian flora. The original Grevillea "Robyn Gordon’ is located in the grevillea section, for us just enjoying the paths and natural beauty is the reason we return. Very bike friendly, in fact that is the best way to explore the gardens.

Dorothy Gordon gallery, Myall Park
If you ask the caretaker, they will open the small art gallery containing Dorothy Gordon’s botanical watercolours of Australian flora.

Myall Park is run by volunteers, so some patience is required when visiting. For me, waking on a glorious Queensland winter morning is enough reason to book another night (did I mention powered sites so electric heaters are OK?)
