Recently, I had the pleasure of visiting Monteria Village, Khalapur, Maharashtra which is a resort, an environmentally friendly place near Mumbai around 83 km from my home which is at Borivali. I have wanted to visit this place ever since I heard about its sustainable initiatives and was truly impressed with what I saw. The village is known for its green revolution, where the villagers have taken it upon themselves to make a conscious effort towards reducing their carbon footprint. they use organic fertilizers for farming, and they have adopted composting methods to reduce waste. All of these measures are helping to reduce pollution and enhance the quality of air.

The moment I stepped foot in the village, I was welcomed with flowers by the friendly staff. Everywhere I looked, there were smiling faces and friendly greetings, making me feel right at home. As I walked around, I quickly noticed the traditional architecture of the village, with its narrow, winding streets and ancient stone houses.

The most interesting thing I noticed in Monteria Village was its relationship with nature. Everywhere I looked, I saw the locals in harmony with nature, using natural resources to sustain their lifestyles. I was also fascinated by the traditional methods of farming, which seemed to be working perfectly in this region.

The food offered at the resort was also delicious. I sampled a variety of dishes, including local cuisines, international delicacies, and traditional Indian dishes. Everything was prepared to perfection, and each dish was served with a smile.

Besides the impressive efforts towards sustainability, Monteria Village also offers a peaceful environment. I felt so inspired to be surrounded by nature and to experience the villageâs culture and life. I explored the village, taking in its culture and exploring its many corners. Everywhere I looked, there were traditional activities being carried out such as pottery, weaving, and animal husbandry. I even had the chance to try my hand at some of these activities, which was a great experience. There were plenty of activities to do, such as exploring the local sights, visiting the nearby forests, trekking in the hills and trying out delicious local cuisines, playing with the childhood games like Bhawra (Top), Vitti Dandu (play like tip cat), Tic-Tac-Toe, playing marbles, playing disc, Ludo, Snakes and Ladder etc. I will definitely recommend Monteria Village to anyone looking for a relaxing yet eco-friendly setting. This village reminds us of the importance of living in harmony with nature and the need for us all to make a conscious effort towards sustainability.

Overall, my visit to Monteria Village was a wonderful experience. From the friendly locals to the traditional architecture, I felt like I was taken back in time to a simpler, more peaceful and environmentally friendly place. All the shops and even clinic in the village are not just to show, they are actually operational. During my visit which i did in April 22, only a day picnic was available. But now they have arranged a stay in a tent. If you want more details you can got to their Monteria Village website. I definitely recommend taking a visit to this beautiful village and exploring its culture and traditions. Click here to read my review on Google maps.
How to reach:
The easiest way to reach Monteria Village, Khopoli, is to take a public bus from Mumbai or by own vehicle. The nearest bus station is Panvel, which is located about 30 km (19 miles) away. From Panvel, take a MSRTC (Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation) bus to Khopoli, and then take a local bus to Monteria Village. The total journey should take about 2 hours, depending on traffic from Mumbai.
Entry Fees:
During my visit it was INR. 1250/- per person including Entry fees + Breakfast + Lunch + Evening snacks. Now, it is INR. 1650/- for Adult and INR. 1350/- for Children above the age of 12.
I once again thank to Dr. Smita Patil for this opportunity to participate in the Challenge on the occasion of World Environment Day.
